This package provides the PS/2 TrackPoint driver for Windows 95, 98, Me and NT 4.0 users.
This package enables or updates the TrackPoint function of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad 240, 240X, 240Z - ThinkPad 380Z(*1) - ThinkPad 560Z(*1)
Note*1: Only Windows 95-98-NT 4.0 are supported. |

Note: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard drive. It will only extract under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows Me. The extraction process will NOT work with any other operating system.

I. Summary of changes
version 1.00
- (New) Support for ThinkPad 380Z and 560Z.

- (New) "Auto-Disable setting" enables/disables TrackPoint dynamically upon suspend/resume and docking/undocking, depending on the existence of the external mouse. (ThinkPad 380Z and 560Z only)
- (Fix) System hang at bootup, if TrackPoint is disabled.
- (Fix) Mouse pointer jumps around the desktop intermittently.
- (Fix) Cannot use TrackPoint when change the TrackPoint status.
- (Fix) Press-to-Select is disabled after Suspend/Resume in WinNT environment.
- (Fix) Pointer speed of an external mouse is too slow on Windows 95.
- (Fix) Twotrack error pop up at bootup on Windows NT4.0. In order to apply this fix to your system, please follow the < Overwrite Install > instruction in the Install Guide for Windows NT 4.0 described below.
- (Fix) F11 key data is generated upon suspend/resume.
- (Fix) Windows NT startup wave sound is distorted.
- (Fix) Cannot use TrackPoint functions except administrator on Windows NT.
- (Fix) Beeping for 10 seconds upon key input in MS-DOS prompt on Windows 95.
- (Fix) Change the name of the Setup Information file for TrackPoint driver.
- (Fix) Twotrack error pop up at bootup on Windows NT4.0 with Netfinity. In order to apply this fix to your system, please follow the < Overwrite Install > instruction in the Install Guide for Windows NT 4.0 described below.
- (Fix) On Windows 95/98, keyboard hangs if TrackPoint II keyboard is attached to the system with inboard TrackPoint disabled.
- (Fix) On Windows NT, keyboard hangs if TrackPoint II keyboard is attached to the system with inboard TrackPoint disabled.
- (Fix) F11 key data is generated upon suspend/resume on Windows 98
- (Fix) Blue screen error occurs at Windows 95/98 startup, if mouse driver is changed.
- (Fix) On Windows NT, keyboard and mouse freeze if Netwizard is installed.

II. Installation instructions for Windows Me
Note: Before installing this driver, you must uninstall the current program.
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract the driver onto the hard drive.
- Click Start, then select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the System Properties window.
- Double-click the Mouse.
- Double-click either PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port or PS/2 TrackPoint whichever choice appears in the list.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard runs.
- Click Specify the location of the driver (Advanced).
- Click Next.
- Click Display a list of all drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want.
- Click Next.
- Click Have Disk.
- Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Then click OK button. Then driver list appears.
- Click IBM PS/2 TrackPoint in the list.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish in the Update Device Driver Wizard window.
- Close the IBM PS/2 TrackPoint Properties window.
- Close the System Properties window.
- Restart your computer to make the new settings effective.
III. Installation instructions for Windows 98
Note: Before installing this driver, you must uninstall the current program.
- Start Windows 98
- Extract the driver onto the hard drive.
- Click Start, then select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click on the Device Manager tab at the top of the System Properties window.
- Double-click the Mouse.
- Double-click either PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port or PS/2 TrackPoint whichever choice appears in the list.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard runs.
- Click Next.
- Click Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want.
- Click Next.
- Click Have Disk.
- Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TPOINT\. Then click the OK button. Then driver list appears.

IV. Installation instructions for Windows 95 or NT 4.0
Note: Before installing this driver, you must uninstall the current program.
- Start Windows 95 or NT. If running Windows NT, logon with administrative privilege.
- Extract the drivers onto the hard drive.
- Click Start, then select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mouse icon.
- Click the General tab.
- Click Change.
- Click Have Disk.
- Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TPOINT\. Then click OK button. The driver list appears.
- Select IBM PS/2 TrackPoint in the list.
- Click OK.
- Click Close in the Mouse Properties window.
- If running Windows NT, go to Devices in Control Panel. If the i8042 Keyboard and PS/2 Mouse Port has been disabled, change it back to System. Failure to do this will cause the TrackPoint and keyboard not to function after rebooting.
- Restart your computer to make the new settings active.
V. Uninstall instructions
- Start Windows 95/98/Me or NT 4.0.
- Click Start, then select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click the Install/Uninstall tab at the top of the Add/Remove Programs Properties window.
- Click IBM TrackPoint Support in the list.
- Click the Add/Remove button.
- Restart Windows.
VI. Determining which version is installed
Windows Me
- Start Windows Me.
- Click Start, then select Search, then click Files or Folders.
- In the Search for files or folders named: field, type in track.vxd.
- In the Look in: field, specify Local Disk (C:).
- Click the Search Now button. Windows will now search your hard drive for track.vxd. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system.
- Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column. The time stamp on the file will be the version number. TRACK.VXD 24,738 04-07-2000 02:01a - is version 2.01
Windows 95/98
- Start Windows 95/98.
- Click Start, then select Search, then click Files or Folders.
- Click the Name & Location tab.
- In the Named: field, type in track.vxd.
- In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:).
- Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard drive for track.vxd. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system.

Windows NT

- In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:).
- Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard drive for twotrack.sys. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system.
- In the Found part of the window, select the twotrack.sys file located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS or C:\WINNT40\SYSTEM32 \DRIVERS.
- Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column. The time stamp on the file will be the version number. TWOTRACK.SYS 16,544 04-07-2000 02:01a - is version 2.01
