Video driver (ATI Mobility Radeon) for Windows 95/98/Me - ThinkPad A30/p, X22, X23, X24

This package provides the video driver for Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me users.

The video driver enables or updates the video function of the following ThinkPad system:
- ThinkPad A30, A30p
- ThinkPad X21, X22, X23

NOTE: This version of the Video Features will only work with:

- ThinkPad A30, A30p system - BIOS version 1.14 (or higher)
- ThinkPad X22, X23, X24 system - BIOS version 1.26 (or higher).

I. Summary of changes

  • (New) Support for ThinkPad A30, A30p

  • (Fix) Display is not correct with 3D WinBench2000 at 1600x1200.
  • (Fix) QUAKE III ARENA displays an error message and does not run.

Version 7.76-020815b-005674C
NOTE: This version will only work with, ThinkPad A30/A30p BIOS Version 1.14 (or higher) and ThinkPad X22, X23, X24 BIOS Version 1.26 (or higher).

  • (Fix) System hangs when restarting with v7.69.5 on ThinkPad A30/A30p only.
  • (Fix) Error message appears when installing display driver v7.69.5-020317a-003274C with PackageManager.
  • (Fix) LCD screen flash intermittently appears on ThinkPad A30/A30p LCD SXGA+/UXGA model.
    NOTE: Need to update system BIOS 1.14 or higher

NOTE:
This version will only work with, ThinkPad A30/A30p BIOS Version 1.14 (or higher) and ThinkPad X22, X23, X24 BIOS Version 1.26 (or higher).

  • (Fix) Windows 3.1 may not start after a display driver overwrite installation.
  • (Fix) Display driver cannot be installed on Windows 98 Simplified Chinese.
  • (Fix) A version conflict message appears with some module files when updating the display driver

II. Installation instructions

This version will only work with:

Windows Me/98/95 OSR2.x

  1. Start Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) or Windows 95 OSR2.x or Windows Millennium Edition (Me).
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start and then click Run.
  4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY\SETUP.EXE to install the video driver. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. When the Welcome window appears, click the Next button.
  6. At the Software License Agreement screen, if you agree, click Yes.
  7. At the Setup Complete screen, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
  8. Click Finish, then reboot the system.
  9. In case of Windows 98(SE), if New Hardware Found dialog appears at the system restart, please insert the Windows 98(SE) compact disc (CD), and then click the OK button.
  10. If Version Conflict dialog appears, click Yes for all dialogs.

Windows 95 OSR0 and OSR1
NOTE: Since the Setup.exe, InstallShield does not work with Windows 95 OSR0/1 do the following

Clean installation

  1. Start Windows 95.
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Device Manager tab.
  6. Remove Standard Display Adapter (VGA) under Display adapters.
  7. At the Confirm Device Removal window, click the OK button.
  8. At the Restart confirmation message window, click NO.
  9. Remove PCI VGA-Compatible Display Adapter under Other Devices.
  10. At the Confirm Device Removal window, click the OK button.
  11. Shutdown and restart the system.
  12. When the system starts, the New Hardware Found window appears. Put check mark in Driver from disk provide by hardware manufacturer. Click the OK button.
  13. Specify atidrive directory where the diver files were extracted and click the OK button.
  14. At the System Settings Change window, click YES and restart the system.

Update install

  1. Start Windows 95.
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Device Manager tab.
  6. Expand Display Adapters.
  7. Select ATI Mobility Radeon and click the Properties buttons.
  8. Select the Driver tab.
  9. Click the Change Driver button.
  10. Click the Have Disk button.
  11. Specify atidrive directory where the diver files are extracted and click the OK button.
  12. At the Select Device window, select ATI Mobility Radeon and click the OK button.
  13. At the ATI Mobility Radeon Properties window, click the OK button.
  14. At the Insert Disk window, click the OK button.
  15. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted and Click the OK button.
  16. At the System Settings have changed window, click Yes and restart the system.

Unattended install

  1. Start Windows.
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start and then click Run.
  4. Run SETUP.EXE in extracted folder with /K /SMS option.
    For example, C:\DRIVERS\VIDEO\SETUP.EXE /K /SMS

III. Determining which version is installed
Windows 98(SE)/Me

  1. Start Windows 98(SE)/Me.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Display icon.
  4. Click the Setting tab.
  5. Click the Advanced (Properties) button.
  6. Click the Options tab. The product version is part of the version information.

Windows 95

  1. Start Windows 95.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Display icon.
  4. Click the Setting tab.
  5. Click the Options tab. The product version is part of the version information.
