Video driver (ATI Mobility Radeon/FireGL series) for Windows 98/Me - ThinkPad A31/p, R40, T30, T40, T41, T42, X31
Applicable countries and regions
This package provides the display driver for Microsoft Windows 98/Me users. This package enables or updates the display function of the following ThinkPad computers:

- ThinkPad A31, A31p
- ThinkPad T30(*1)
- ThinkPad T40, T41, T42(*2)
- ThinkPad R40(*2)
- ThinkPad X31(*2)

(*1) Only the following T30 models support the Windows Me:
2366/2367-x1x, x2x, x3x, x4x, x5x, A6x, and A7x, except for M1x, M2x, M3x, M4x, and M5x
(*2) Windows Me is not supported.

Note:
- Make sure that DirectX 8.x runtime modules have been installed into the system before installing this driver. DirectX runtime modules are available on the Microsoft Web site.

I. Summary of changes

  • (Fix) The LCD refresh rate does not return to the original refresh rate when attached to the AC adapter and Lower LCD refresh rate is enabled in Battery MaxiMiser.

II. Installation instructions

  1. Start Windows 98/Me.
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start and then click Run.
  4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY\SETUP.EXE to install the video driver. Click OK to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. When the Welcome window appears, click Next.
  6. At the Software License Agreement screen, if you agree, click Yes.
  7. At the Setup Complete screen, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
  8. Click Finish, then reboot the system.
  9. In Windows 98, the New Hardware Found dialog screen may appear after the system is rebooted, insert the Windows 98 CD, and then click OK. If the Version Conflict dialog window appears, click Yes for all responses.

NOTE: If you are experience problems installing this driver on Microsoft Windows Me, refer to the vftp1gme.txt file for further install instructions.

Unattended install
NOTE
: This is for system administrators' use only.

  1. Start Windows 98/Me and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start and then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY\SETUP /K -SMS and click OK.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Start Windows 98/Me.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Display.
  4. Select the Setting tab.
  5. Click Advanced (Properties).
  6. Select the Options tab. The Product Version is part of the version information.
