This package provides the audio driver for Microsoft Windows 98.
This package enables or updates the audio function of the following ThinkPad computers:
- ThinkPad A31, A31p - ThinkPad R40 - ThinkPad T30, T40, T41, T42 - ThinkPad X30, X31
NOTE: This program is language independent and can be used with anylanguage system. |

II. Installation instructions
Clean install
- Start Windows 98.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Click Finish and reboot the system when prompt in order to complete the installation.
Update install
NOTE: Remove any previously installed driver using the uninstall step in the next section.
- Start Windows 98.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
- If the dialog box appears, select Reinstall or Update and then click Next.
- Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.
Uninstall
- Start Windows 98.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click SoundMax x86 VM General MIDI Server and then click Add/Remove. A dialog box will appear.
- Click OK.
- Click OK and reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers.
III. Determining which version is installed
- Start Windows 98.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Select SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio.
- Right click SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio, and select Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click Driver Details.
- Select C:\windows\system\smw95.vxd, to display the version number. Confirm the last 4 digits are 0627, same as last version.
