Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad T30

The Embedded Controller Program Update Utility given here can update the embedded controller program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions.
This release supports the following system: - ThinkPad T30
The supported operating systems are as follows: - Microsoft Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition - Microsoft Windows Me * - Microsoft Windows 2000 - Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later - Microsoft Windows XP
* Only the following T30 models support the Windows Me: 2366/2367 - x1x, x2x, x3x, x4x, x5x, A6x and A7x except for M1x, M2x, M3x, M4x and M5x.
Notes: - This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 2.08 or higher. The BIOS is available in an additional package, a link is provided below. - If you need to update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update the BIOS first. |

Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with BIOS Version 2.08 (or higher).
- (New) Improve battery current protection logic.

Notes:
- Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the Embedded Controller Program in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment.
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the embedded controller program.
- If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- Before using this embedded controller program Update Utility with Windows 98 Second Edition, it is recommended applying the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Web site Knowledge Base Article ID Q239887.
- Print these instructions or display on another computer.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
- Start Windows 98 or start Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer.
- Extract this package to the hard drive.
- Click the Start button, then click Run.
- Specify the file name with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\Temp\1IHJ07US.EXE) and click OK.
Note: For unattended update, specify the file name with options "-s -a -s". (e.g. C:\Temp\1IHJ07US.EXE -s -a -s) The BIOS is updated without any user interaction.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting the operating system and rerunning this Embedded Controller Program update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear.
"DeviceIoControl() returns 2
Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again."
Windows will shut down automatically and ThinkPad Embedded Controller Program Update Utility screen appears.
- Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
- Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
- Select Update embedded controller program and follow the instruction on the screen.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective.
Do the following to make sure the Embedded Controller Program is updated correctly:
- Turn on the computer.
- While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the Access IBM button.
- Double-click Start setup utility. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- Verify the Embedded Controller Version.
- Turn off the computer.
Each version of the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility contains the following embedded controller program. The version of embedded controller program can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking BIOS Setup Utility.
- Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer.
- While the Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- The embedded controller version is displayed on the first screen of the BIOS Setup Utility.
