This package provides the Wireless LAN driver for the Intel High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI combo card for Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000/XP.

I. Summary of changes

Version 1.07.37

  • (New) Support for ThinkPad R32.

Version 1.07.43

  • (Fix) Added Uninstaller for upgrading the OS from Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
  • (Fix) System hangs by forcing suspend during file transfer under Windows XP.
  • (Fix) Profiles with the same name can be created using the Configuration Utility.

II. Installation instructions
Note
: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install and uninstall wizards for this package.

Windows 98/2000/XP

  1. Start Windows. For Windows 2000/XP, log on with a user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. In the run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANINT\Setup\SETUP.EXE to install the driver. Click OK to start the installation process. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead.
  5. Follow the instructions.
  6. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system.

Windows NT

  1. Start Windows NT and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the Network icon.
  5. The Network Configuration dialog box is displayed if this is the first time configuring the Network. If not, go to step 21.

    First Network Configuration
  6. Click Yes.
  7. Select Wired to the network.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Select from list...
  10. Click Have Disk...
  11. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANINT in the Insert Disk dialog box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Select High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  17. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files. (It is usually C:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's X:\i386 directory.)
  18. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  19. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  20. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system.

    Adding Wireless LAN to Network Configuration
  21. Click the Adapters tab.
  22. Click Add...
  23. Click Have Disk...
  24. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANINT in the Insert Disk dialog box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead.
  25. Click OK.
  26. Select High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Adapter with Modem II.
  27. Click OK.
  28. Click Close.
  29. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  30. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system.

Unattended install for Windows 98, 2000, XP
Notes:

  • This procedure is intended only for system administrators.
  1. Start Windows. For Windows 2000/XP, log on with a user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. In the run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANINT\SETUP.EXE -s to install the driver. Click OK to start the installation process. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead.
  5. Driver will silently install and the system will reboot.

III. Uninstall

Windows 98/2000/XP

  1. Start Windows 98/2000/XP. If using Windows 2000/XP, logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add Remove Programs.
  4. Click High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II.
  5. Click Remove.
  6. Follow the instructions.
  7. Restart the system.

Windows NT

  1. Start Windows NT and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Network icon.
  4. Click the Adapters tab.
  5. Select High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II.
  6. Click the Remove button.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  8. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system.

IV. Determining which version is installed

  1. Double-click the High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI Combo Card Configuration Utility icon in the system tray.
  2. Click the About tab. It displays the version of the driver.
