I. Installation instructions
NOTE:

Windows NT 4.0
Update install
To update the device driver and power management driver

Ethernet Device Driver

  1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the Network icon.
  5. Click the Adapters tab.
  6. Select Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection.
  7. Click the Update button.
  8. Specify the path to sub-directory: PRO100\WINNT4, with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2.
  9. Click the Continue button.
  10. Click the Close button.
  11. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

    Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)

    1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
    2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click the Network icon.
    4. Click the Services tab.
    5. Select NDIS PM Interface.
    6. Click the Update button.
    7. Specify the path to sub-directory: \NPMINT40 of the directory that contains the driver in the step 2 in Windows NT Setup dialog box.
    8. Click the Continue button.
    9. Click the Close button.
    10. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Clean Install
Ethernet Device Driver

  1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the Network icon. It displays Network Configuration dialog box if this is the first time to configure the Network. If not, go to step 20.

    First Network Configuration

  5. Click the Yes button.
  6. Select Wired to the network.
  7. Click the Next button.
  8. Click the Select from list button.
  9. Click the Have Disk button.
  10. Specify the path to sub-directory: PRO100\WINNT4, with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2.
  11. Click the OK button.
  12. Select Intel PRO Adapter.
  13. Click the OK button.
  14. Click the Next button.
  15. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
  16. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files. (It is usually c:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's x:\i386 directory.)
  17. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
  18. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
  19. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

    Add Ethernet to Network Configuration

  20. Click the Adapters tab.
  21. Click the Add button.
  22. Click the Have Disk button.
  23. Specify the path to sub-directory: PRO100\WINNT4, with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2.
  24. Click the OK button.
  25. Select Intel PRO Adapter.
  26. Click the OK button.
  27. Click the Close button.
  28. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
  29. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

    Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)

    1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
    2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click the Network icon.
    4. Click the Protocols tab.
    5. Click the Add button.
    6. Click the Have Disk button.
    7. Specify the path to sub-directory NPMINT40 of the directory that contains the driver in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
    8. Click the OK button.
    9. Select NDIS PM Interface.
    10. Click the OK button.
    11. Click the Close button.
    12. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Unattended Installation
For customers who need unattended installation, the DOS driver (E100B.DOS) is included in DOS sub-directory in this package. Unattended installation instructions are also included in PUSH subdirectory The DOS driver can be used only for this purpose.

OS/2
OS/2 driver is included in OS2 subdirectory in this package. To install or update the device driver, use the standard tools provided by the operating system and point to the media or directory containing the drivers, such as follows:

  1. Double-click OS/2 System.
  2. Double-click System Setup.
  3. Double-click MPTS Network Adapters and Protocol Services.
  4. Click Configure on Multi-Protocol Transport Services
  5. Confirm LAN adapters and protocols is selected and click the Configure button
  6. Click Other adapters...
  7. Type the full path to the OS/2 Ethernet driver and click OK. The OS/2 driver is located in the PRO100\OS2 folder.
  8. Select Intel(R) PRO PCI Adapter in Network Adapters and click Add.
  9. Add Protocols as required for your network
  10. Click OK to close Adapters and Protocol Configuration
  11. Click Close to exit Configure
  12. Click Exit to close Multi-Protocol Transport Services.
  13. Confirm Update CONFIG.SYS is selected and click Exit.
  14. A CONFIG.SYS Updated message will be displayed and then click OK.
  15. Click OK to exit MPTS
  16. Reboot the system

II. Determining which version is installed

Operating system NDIS Filename Version

NT 4.0 NDIS4 E100BNT.SYS 6.4.14

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your system:
Windows

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Click Find or Search.
  3. Type one of the NDIS driver names in Named: field. For example, if you are using Windows 2000, type E100bnt5.sys in the field.
  4. Click the Find Now or Search Now button. It lists the NDIS driver(s). If it does not list the NDIS driver, the Ethernet device driver is not installed in your system.
  5. Right-click the NDIS driver that is found in the Windows folder.
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Click the Version tab.
  8. Click Product Version in the Items name: field.

DOS

  1. Find the file E100b.dos.
  2. To determine if a driver update is needed, check the date of the driver file. If the date is older then 04/29/2002, then you need to update your driver.
