Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad A31, A31p (1GHTxxWW)

The Embedded Controller Program Update Utility given here can update the embedded controller program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions.
This release supports the following system: - ThinkPad A31 - 2652-Axx/Bxx/Cxx/Dxx/Exx/Jxx/Kxx/Mxx, 2654-Cxx - ThinkPad A31p - 2653-Hxx/Jxx/Lxx/Nxx
The supported operating systems are as follows: - Microsoft Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition - Microsoft Windows Me * - Microsoft Windows 2000 - Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later - Microsoft Windows XP
Note: Press F1 during startup. The initial BIOS screen will display the BIOS version. If the BIOS version begins with 1G this embedded controller is supported on this system. Version 1GHT15WW (1.02)
- (Fix) Fixed the unexpected system restart during standby/resume operation, caused by fault recognition of a non-existing secondary battery.
- (New) Enhancement of the battery control.
Version 1GHT16WW (1.03)

(Fix) Fixed problems introduced by the previous release, 1.02 - 1GHT15WW.
- Password prompt appears twice even if the Power on password and the hard drive Password are identical.
- Fail to resume after suspend.
Version 1GHT17WW (1.04)
- (Fix) Charge stops on some batteries.
Version 1GHT18WW (1.05)
- (Fix) Improve battery current protection logic.
Notes:
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program.
- If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- Before using this embedded controller program Update Utility with Windows 98 Second Edition, ThinkPad recommends applying the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Web site Knowledge Base Article ID Q239887.
- Press F1 during startup. The initial BIOS screen will display the BIOS version. If the BIOS version begins with 1G this embedded controller is supported on this system. If the BIOS version begins with 1N this embedded controller is not supported on this machine. Click here to download the appropriate embedded controller.
- Print these instructions or display on another computer.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
- Start a supported version of Windows on the target computer.
- Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, C:\Temp)
- Download the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory.
- Click the Start button, then click Run.
- In the Open dialogue box, specify the utility filename with the full path name where you stored Embedded Controller Program Update Utility. (E.g. C:\Temp\1GHJ06US.exe) Then press the Enter key.
- Follow the instructions.
- When completed, the system is automatically turned off.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective.
- Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn on the computer.
- While the Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- Verify the Embedded Controller version.
Each version of the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility contains the following embedded controller program. The version of embedded controller program can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking BIOS Setup Utility.
- Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer.
- While the Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- The embedded controller version is displayed on the first screen of the BIOS Setup Utility.
