Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad R40
|

This Embedded Controller Program Update Utility updates the Embedded Controller Program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.
This release supports the following system:
- ThinkPad R40
The supported operating systems are as follows:
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition(*1)
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or later
- Microsoft Windows 2000
- Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional)
Note: *1- Before using the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility with Windows 98 Second Edition, Lenovo recommends that you apply the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Web Site Knowledge Base Article ID Q239887. |

Version 1.14 (1OHT42WW)
- (Fix) When Windows power management is disabled and both primary and secondary batteries run down to 0%, System will not power on with AC adapter.

Notes:
- As written on LCCM Compatibility and Configuration Guide, remove the Power-on password prior to updating Embedded Controller Program in LCCM (LANClient Control Manager) or similar environment.
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the Embedded Controller Program.
- If your system is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the system and detach it before proceeding.
- If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your system, turn off the system and detach it before proceeding.
- Print these instructions or display on another system.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the system.
- Start Windows 98 or start Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target system.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click the Start button, then click Run.
- Specify file name with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\Temp\1OHT41WW.EXE) Then click OK.
- Select 2. KBC H8 BIOS flash? from the menu.
- Press N to continue the update. Follow the instructions on the screen.
- When completed, the system is automatically turned off.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the system until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the system while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
Each version of the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility contains the following Embedded Controller Program. Also the supported BIOS versions are shown below. The version of Embedded Controller Program can be viewed by entering the BIOS Setup Utility.

To enter the BIOS Setup Utility:
- Turn off the system.
- Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive.
- Turn on the system.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button message is displayed at the lower-left of the screen, press the Access IBM button.
- Select Start setup utility. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password. Check Embedded Controller Version number.
