ThinkVantage Client Security Solution 8.2
Applicable countries and regions
Consider the following before installing this code:
  • Client Security Solution 8.2 is only compatible with Rescue and Recovery 4.0 or later. Client Security Solution 8.2 can be over-installed on Client Security Solution 8.1, however for earlier versions refer to the sections below for instructions to install.

    Installing on a computer with Rescue and Recovery 3.1
    In order to install Client Security Solution 8.2, you must first upgrade to Rescue and Recovery 4.0 or later. To upgrade, download and run the Rescue and Recovery 4.0 installer available on the Lenovo Web site.

    Installing on a computer with Rescue and Recovery 3.0
    The following steps must be taken before installing Client Security Solution 8.2 on a computer with Rescue and Recovery 3.0:

    1. Copy or move all files from your PrivateDisk volumes, if necessary, or you will lose access to your data. Client Security Solution 8.2 does not support PrivateDisk.
    2. Create bootable recovery media using the ThinkVantage Create Recovery Media utility. This enables you to use the backups created using your current version of Rescue and Recovery.
    3. Copy or move any Rescue and Recovery backups to an external location. Uninstalling Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution deletes all backups on your computer.

      IMPORTANT: Client Security Solution 8.2 does not support data or settings from your current version of Client Security Solution. Uninstalling the current version will delete all data and settings.

    4. Uninstall the version of Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution currently installed on your computer using the Windows Control Panel.
    5. Install Rescue and Recovery 4.0 or later. To install, download and run the Rescue and Recovery 4.0 or later installer available on the Lenovo Web site.


  • Client Security Solution 8.2 cannot be installed as an upgrade from a previous version. You must uninstall your existing version of Client Security Solution before installing version 8.2.

    Installing on a computer with Client Security Solution 7.0
    The following steps must be taken before upgrading Client Security Solution 7.0 to Client Security Solution 8.2:
    1. Download and run the Client Security Solution 8.x Upgrade Assistant from the Lenovo Web site. This utility preserves your current data and settings for use with Client Security Solution 8.0.
    2. Copy or move all files from your PrivateDisk volumes or you will lose access to your data. Client Security Solution 8.2 does not support PrivateDisk.
    3. Uninstall Client Security Solution 7.0 using the Windows Control Panel.

    Installing on a computer with Client Security Solution 6.0
    The following steps must be taken before upgrading Client Security Solution 6.0 to Client Security Solution 8.2:

    1. Copy or move all files from your PrivateDisk volumes or you will lose access to your data. Client Security Solution 8.2 does not support PrivateDisk.
    2. Uninstall Client Security Solution 6.0 using the Windows Control Panel.

    Installing on a computer with Client Security Solution 5.4 or earlier
    Client Security Solution 5.4 or earlier users must uninstall the version currently installed on their computers before installing Client Security Solution 8.2.

Client Security Solution is designed to help you protect PC-based computing assets. These assets include the PC itself, confidential data on the PC and the company network.

Consider the following when using this code:
  • Client Security Solution 8.2 is not integrated with ThinkVantage Productivity Center 1.0. ThinkVantage Productivity Center users should update to ThinkVantage Productivity Center 2.0 or later for the best user experience.
  • Client Security Solution 8.2 supports UPEK and Authentec fingerprint coexistence.
  • Refer to the "Client Security Solution Readme" file links above for installation instructions and considerations.
  • If you want to use a Smart Card as an authentication device, refer to Using smart cards with Client Security Solution 8.0.

System requirements
Update your system to the latest BIOS
1.5GB of free space on your hard drive
512MB of memory in recommended
Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit version with Service Pack 1 or higher
Microsoft Windows Vista (Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate) 32-bit and 64-bit versions
8MB or less of VRAM shared memory set in BIOS
Additional requirements for Hardware Password Reset: NTFS (Windows XP) and 1GB system memory
