Power management setup
NOTES:
- Windows 98 Second Edition supports power and system management methods called advanced configuration and power interface (ACPI) and advanced power management (APM). While ACPI shows a great deal of promise for the future, it is recommended that you run Windows 98 Second Edition in APM mode. (ThinkPad systems with Windows 98 pre-installed are shipped with APM enabled.)
- Certain ThinkPad systems are ACPI Ready. ACPI Ready means that ACPI is not installed, but the system hardware and BIOS support ACPI.
- During the installation process of Windows 98 Second Edition, if it detects a BIOS date of 12/2/99 or later, it will automatically install itself in ACPI mode.
To correctly install Windows 98 Second Edition in APM mode, please follow the instructions outlined below.
