Installation supplement files for Windows 98 - ThinkPad A2*, A3*, T2*, T30, TransNote

The ThinkPad systems listed below incorporates several new devices that were not available when Microsoft Windows 98 was announced. This package provides the supplement files to support the new devices and to fix some problems for Windows 98 users.
This package contains: - Updated INF files for Laptop resolution, - Texas Instruments PCI CardBus support and registry patch file for CardBus-Ethernet Port Replicator support. - APM mode installation file for Windows 98 Second Edition - LCD Panel Color Profile support - 1400x1050 LCD panel resolution support
*This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad A20p, A21p, A22p - ThinkPad A20m, A21m, A22m - ThinkPad A21e, A22e - ThinkPad A30, A30p - ThinkPad A31, A31p - ThinkPad T20, T21, T22, T23 - ThinkPad T30 * - ThinkPad TransNote

Click here for instructions and limitations on downloading and creating the diskette.
Note: If you use the product Disk-fto-disk or CD recovery option that shipped with your ThinkPad system to restore the Microsoft Windows 98 preload environment, you do not need this package. This package is required when you install Windows 98 without using the product recovery option.

- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive (HDD).
Note: The extracted to directory is assumed to be C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP in this guide.

Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98 retail CD-ROM to the HDD as follows.
- Make a temporary directory (for instance, C:\WIN98) and make sure enough HDD space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free space will vary depending on the language of Windows 98).
- Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from \WIN98 directory of Windows 98 CD.
Type copy src_cd:\WIN98\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir and press Enter
where
src_CD: is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive (for example D: or E:), and
tgt_dir: is the drive letter and temporary directory to copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from \WIN98 directory of Windows 98 CD.

Copy updated INF files from SUPP directory to the temporary directory
- Type COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\W98GOLD\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir and press Enter.
tgt_drv:\tgt_dir: is the drive letter and temporary directory made in step 2.a. (For example, C:\WIN98)
- For ThinkPad T30 only:
Type COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCI1520\TI.INF tgt_drv:\tgt_dir\PCMCIA.INF and press Enter.
Type COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCI1520\TI-CBus.CAT' tgt_drv:\tgt_dir and press Enter.

Start Installation from the temporary directory
- Run Setup.exe in the temporary directory.
- Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
- Apply INTEL INF Installer Utility (in Windows Supplement File)
Note: For ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p, and T23 systems, launch the INFINST_ENU.EXE file in the Windows installation supplement file version 1.30 or later in order to enumerate the newer INTEL chipset in these systems.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive (HDD).
Note: The extracted to directory is assumed to be C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP in this guide.

Start Installation from the temporary directory
- Run Setup.exe C:\Win98\APMINST.INF in the temporary directory.
- Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Note: ACPI mode installation does not require step 4-a, 4-b but just run Setup.exe.
- Apply INTEL INF Installer Utility (in Windows Supplement File)
Note: For ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p, and T23 systems, launch the INFINST_ENU.EXE file in the Windows installation supplement file version 1.30 or later in order to enumerate the newer INTEL chipset in these systems.
Note: ACPI mode installation does not require this step.
- Boot the system
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\APM2APM\APM2APM.reg and click OK. The Registry Editor window appears with the following message "Are you sure you want to add the information C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\apm2apm\apm2apm.reg to the registry?".
- Click Yes. Successful windows message is displayed.
- Click OK to exit the registry editor screen.
- Click the right button on desktop to open Display Properties tab.
- Select Settings.
- Click Advanced.
- Select Monitor and Change.
- Click Have Disk.
- Specify the directory where ibmtplcd.inf files exist and click OK.
- Select ibmtplcd.inf and click OK.
- Select one panel in the list you are using now.
- Click Apply.
- Select the Color Management tab to make sure ibmtplcd.icm file is loaded.
Note: Only customers who did not copy TI.INF when running setup for Windows 98/SE
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Select the Device Manager tab.
- Double-click PCMCIA socket.
- Right-click Generic CardBus Controller and select Properties.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver button.
- Click Next.
- Select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now. (Recommended) option, and click Next.
- Select Specify a location:, click Browse and specify the directory name where you extracted this package with PCI1520 subfolder, and then click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- If Insert Disk dialog is displayed, please insert the disk specify the Win98 directory on CD-ROM, or local HDD copy of Windows 98 and then click OK two times.
- Click Finish.
- Repeat from step 5 to 14 for another Generic CardBus Controller.
