This package provides the 3Com modem drivers for the 10/100 Ethernet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56k Modem (MiniPCI Combo) for Microsoft Windows 95/98Gold/98SE.

*This release supports the following ThinkPad systems with the "10/100 Ethernet Mini PCI Adapter with 56K Modem (3Com)" option installed:
- ThinkPad A20m, A20p
- ThinkPad A21e, A21m, A21p
- ThinkPad A22e, A22m, A22p
- ThinkPad A30, A30p
- ThinkPad T20, T21, T22, T23
- ThinkPad X20, X21, X22
- ThinkPad TransNote ( supports Windows 98SE only)

This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

A separate package is required to enable the Ethernet function of the "10/100 Ethernet Mini PCI Adapter with 56K Modem (3Com)".

I. Summary of changes
Version 2.28.039.0076.01b

- (Fix) Fix for low modem connect speeds.

II. Installation instructions
  1. With the system powered off, install the modem PCI card if necessary.
  2. Start Windows 95/98Gold/98SE.
  3. Extract the drivers onto the hard disk drive. This will make two directories:
  • MDMSETUP (Modem setup and application software) and
  • MDMDISK2 (Modem vxd driver)
  1. Click Start, then click Run.
  2. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\W9x\MODEM\MDMSETUP\SETUP.EXE, and click OK start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  3. Press the Next button on the Welcome dialog screen.
  4. Leave the Yes, I want to restart my computer now box checked and click the Finish button at the Setup Complete dialog screen. The system will restart.
  5. Press the OK button at the Insert Disk dialog screen.
  6. At the second Insert disk dialog screen, in the Copy files from: field, type c:\windows\options\cabs and click the OK button.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete modem installation.

III. Uninstall instructions
  1. Start Windows 95/98/98SE.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the System icon.
  4. Select the Device Manager tab.
  5. Click the + next to Modem.
  6. Select 3Com Mini PCI 56K Modem.
  7. Click the Remove button.
  8. Click OK from the Confirm Device Removal dialogue box.
  9. If asked to restart the machine, do so.

IV. Determining which version is installed
  1. Start Windows 95/98/98SE
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Modems.
  4. Click the Diagnostics tab.
  5. Select the COM port the modem is installed on.
  6. Click the More Info button.
  7. Scroll down to where the ATI7 command is displayed. The version will be displayed at VXD rev.
