I. Summary of changes
II. Installation instructions
Version 1.00
- (New) Support for ThinkPad X20.
Version 2.00
- Copies boot manager to Product Recovery section of the hard drive
- Download d2dfdzip.exe file listed in the File Details section above to a system running a Microsoft Windows based operating system and extract the base files needed to create a Service Partition repair diskette to a formatted 1.44mb floppy disk.
- Insert the diskette with the extracted files into a system running Microsoft Windows 98/98SE.
- Click Start, then Run, and at the prompt type SYS A: and press the Enter key. This will make the diskette bootable.
- Download a newer version of FDISK.EXE by accessing Microsoft's web site and typing Q263044 in the search field. The update for FDISK.EXE can be obtained from the specified article. Once downloaded and executed, copy the updated version of FDISK.EXE to the bootable Service Partition repair diskette created in steps 1 and 2. The Service Partition repair diskette is now complete.
-
Insert the Service Partition repair diskette into the Thinkpad's floppy drive (optional floppy drive will be necessary for the X series) and boot the computer.
Note: During the repair process, close attention to the instructions on the screen is required.
The Service Partition repair diskette will bootup to a Microsoft Windows Startup Menu displaying three options:
- Restore F11 message and function (This allows the F11 prompt to appear during bootup, so the F11 key may be pressed to initiate the recovery of the preload.)
- Suppress F11 message but retain the F11 function (This allows the F11 prompt to be hidden during bootup, but the F11 key may be pressed to initiate the recovery at the same time during bootup.)
- Disable F11 message and function (This removes the F11 prompt and function, whereby preventing access to the Service Partition for recovery of the preload. This option does not remove the hidden Service Partition or the contents of the partition)
