The Intel Pro/100S Desktop Adapters provide secure attachment to a 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX Ethernet LAN for desktop PCs with a PCI bus interface.

Hardware requirements

The Intel Pro/100S Desktop Adapters can be installed in any PCI-slot equipped Intel Pentium-architecture processor, PC. The low-profile adapter should be ordered for use in low-profile desktop PCs.

Supported operating systems

The Desktop adapter is shipped with drivers for all leading operating systems. The following operating systems are supported:

  • Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me
  • Windows NT, Version 3.51, or later
  • Novell NetWare, Version 3.12, or later
  • OS/2 Warp, OS/2 Warp Connect, Version 4.0, or later
  • SCO UnixWare 2, UnixWare 7
  • Windows for Workgroups, Version 3.11
  • LAN Manager
  • Linux

Compatibility

On some systems the default resource values may result in conflicts, requiring a change in these values.

Limitations

  • Use of the Wake on LAN function requires a PCI 2.2-compatible PC that supports Wake on LAN and provides auxiliary 3.3V power through the PCI bus.
  • Use of the IPSec function requires the PC to be running Windows 2000, or another operating system that supports IPSec security.
  • The Alert on LAN feature is not supported by this adapter or future Desktop PCs.

NOTE: Some configurations may not be supported.

Cable orders required

An adapter cable is not included with these adapters. The appropriate cabling must be used when connecting to an Ethernet network:

  • UTP-3, -4, or -5 cable with RJ-45 connectors for 10BASE-T networks
  • UTP-5 cable for 100BASE-TX networks
