Detect your Intel LAN Adapter's Ethernet driver version
This automated solution will check your ThinkPad and display the version of the Intel PRO/100 VE/SP LAN Adapter's Ethernet driver currently on your computer.

II. Installation instructions
NOTE:
- Ethernet Daughter Card - The name of the Ethernet device driver is Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection in the Device Manager and in the Network Control Panel.
- Intel Mini PCI Card - The name of the Ethernet device driver is Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter in the Device Manager and in the Network Control Panel.

Click on the appropriate operating system for install instruction:
Windows 98/Me
NOTE: Device drivers are located in Win9x subdirectory for Windows 95, 98, and Me.
Update install
- Start Windows 98/Me
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel. Under Windows Me, click the View all Control Panel options link.
- Double-click System.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
- Right-click Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter in Network adapters and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click Update Driver.
- In Windows 98, click Next in the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box and select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now.(Recommended).
In Windows Me, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced).
- Click Next.
- Select Specify a location: only.
- Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\Win9x.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next. The driver installation starts.
- Click Finish when the installation completes.
- Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.
Clean install
NOTE: If this is the first boot of Windows 98 after installing the Ethernet Daughter Card or the Intel Mini PCI Card in the computer, the Windows 98/Me detects the card automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Start Windows 98/Me, the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box is displayed.
- In Windows 98, click Next and select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended).
In Windows Me, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced).
- Click Next.
- Select Specify a location: only.
- Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\Win9x.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- Click Next. The driver installation starts.
- Click Finish when the installation completes.
- Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.
NOTE: If Windows 98/Me detected the PCI Ethernet Controller, but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager. To install the driver, follow the instructions outlined in the TPNWALL.TXT file.
Windows 2000
NOTE: To customers who use Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (Mini PCI combo card) on ThinkPad X23 or X24 system's Bluetooth model under Windows 2000, disable the Smart Power Down feature for Ethernet in the Device Manager with the instructions below:
- Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System, click the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
- Double-click Network adapters, then double-click Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter.
- Click the Advanced tab
- Select Smart Power Down in the property window and change the value to Disabled.
- Click OK.
Update install
- Start Windows 2000.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- Click the Hardware tab.
- Click Device Manager.
- Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
- Right-click Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter in Network adapters and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click Update Driver.
- Click Next in the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
- Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
- Click Next.
- Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
- Click Next.
- Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET in the Copy manufacturer's files from: field.
- Click OK.
- Click Next. The driver installation starts.
NOTE: After this step, the installer may display a Digital Signature not found message. Click Yes if this message appears.
- Click Finish when the installation completes.
- Restart the computer.
Clean install
NOTE: If this is the first boot of Windows 2000 after installing the Ethernet Daughter Card or the Intel Mini PCI Card in the computer, the Windows 2000 detects the card automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below.
- Extract this package onto the hard drive.
- Start Windows 2000.
- When the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box is displayed, click Next.
- Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
- Click Next.
- Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
- Click Next.
- Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET in the Copy manufacturer's files from: field.
- Click OK.
- Click Next. The driver installation starts.
NOTE: After this step, the installer may display a Digital Signature not found message. Click Yes if this message appears.
- Click Finish when the installation completes.
- Restart the computer.
NOTE: If Windows 2000 detected the Ethernet Controller, but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager. To install the driver, follow the instructions outlined in the TPNWALL.TXT file.
Windows XP
Update install
NOTE:To customers who use Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (Mini PCI combo card) on ThinkPad X23 or X24 system's Bluetooth model under Windows 2000 or XP, please disable Smart Power Down feature for Ethernet in the Device Manager with the instructions below:
- Click Start, click Control Panel, and then select the Switch to Classic View option.
- Double-click System then click the Hardware tab and select Device Manager.
- Double-click Network adapters, double-click Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Select Smart Power Down in the property window and change the value to Disabled.
- Click OK.
NOTE: Windows XP contains a native driver for Ethernet and it is loaded automatically. If you need to update the driver, follow the instructions below:
- Start Windows XP.
- Click Start, then click Control Panel and choose the option to Switch to Classic View.
- Double-click System then select the Hardware tab and press Device Manager.
- Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
- Right click Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter in Network adapters and select Properties from the pop up menu
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click Update Driver.
- Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and click Next.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations.
- Select Include this location in the search. Click Browse, then click the + mark to specify the Ethernet driver location, and click OK.
- Click Next, the driver installation starts.
- Click Finish.

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your system:
Windows
- Right-click the My Computer icon.
- Click Find or Search.
- Type one of the NDIS driver names in Named: field. For example, if you are using Windows 2000, type E100bnt5.sys in the field.
- Click the Find Now or Search Now button. It lists the NDIS driver(s). If it does not list the NDIS driver, the Ethernet device driver is not installed in your system.
- Right-click the NDIS driver that is found in the Windows folder.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Version tab.
- Click Product Version in the Items name: field.
