I. Summary of changes
Version 5.12.01.3691
- (Fix) System may hang during voice chatting through MSN Messenger.

II. Install instructions
NOTE: This driver can be installed with the ThinkPad Software Installer.
Clean installation
- Start Windows and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator for Windows XP.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Click Finish and reboot the system when prompted in order to complete the installation.
Upgrading or reinstall
NOTE: Remove any previously installed driver.
- Start Windows and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator for Windows XP.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
- If the dialog box appears, select Reinstall or Update and then click Next.
- Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.
Unattended installation
NOTE: This is for system administrators' use only.
- Start Windows and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator for Windows XP.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE -S -SMS in the Open box and click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Click Finish and reboot the system when prompted in order to complete the installation.
III. Uninstall instructions
- Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
- Click Start, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click SoundMAX, then click Change/Remove (or Add/Remove).
- Select Remove or OK, then click Next or OK.
- Click Finish or OK and reboot the system to fully uninstall the drivers.
IV. Determining which version is installed
- Start Windows XP.
- Click Start and then click Control Panel.
- Click Performance and Maintenance.
- Click System.
- Click the Hardware tab.
- Click Device Manager.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Select SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio.
- Right-click SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio, and select Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click Driver Details.
- Select C:\winnt\system32\drivers\smwdm.sys, to display the version number, where C:\winnt is the location the OS is installed. (Confirm the last 4 digits are 3542)
