Embedded Controller Program (Non-Diskette) - ThinkPad R40e

This Embedded Controller Program Update Utility updates the Embedded Controller Program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.

I. Summary of changes
Version 1.04 - 1SHT20WW
- (Fix) Incorrect Version ( or Internal ID) may appear after updating Embedded Controller Program.

II. Installation instructions
NOTES:
- As written on LCCM Compatibility and Configuration Guide, remove the Power-on password prior to updating Embedded Controller Program in LCCM (LANClient Control Manager) or similar environment.
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the Embedded Controller Program.
- If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- Print these instructions or display on another computer.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
- Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click the Start button, then click Run.
- Specify file name with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\Temp\1OHT30WW.EXE) Then click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- When completed, the computer is automatically turned off.
WARNING: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
III. Determining which version is installed
Each version of the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility contains the following Embedded Controller Program. Also the supported BIOS versions are shown below. The version of Embedded Controller Program can be viewed by entering the BIOS Setup Utility.

To enter the BIOS Setup Utility:
- Turn off the computer.
- Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive.
- Turn on the computer.
- While the Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- Check Embedded Controller Version number.
