This package provides the Modem driver for Microsoft Windows 98SE users. The Modem driver enables or updates the Modem function of ThinkPad AMR Modem of the following ThinkPad computers:

I. Summary of changes
Version 2.1.25
- (New) Support ThinkPad G40.
Version 2.1.29
- (New) Support ThinkPad Software Installer Version 2.
- (Fix) LCD turnes on and off repeatedly when user press Fn+F3 while modem connection active
II. Installation instructions
Manual install
- Start Windows 98SE.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- In the Run dialog window, specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
Manual uninstall
- Start Windows 98SE.
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel.
- Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem.
- Click the Add/Remove button.
- Click the Yes button in the confirmation window.
- When asked to restart the system, click the Yes button.
NOTE: If you do not remove the modem Hardware, then Windows will detect the modem in the next boot.
Unattended installation
This is for system administrators' use only.
- Start Windows 98SE.
- Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive. (Assume the location of extracted files is C:\Drivers\W98\Modem)
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type C:\Drivers\W98\Modem\Setup.EXE -S, then click OK.
III. Determining which version is installed
To check the driver version
- Start Windows 98SE.
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Modems icon.
- Click the Diagnostics tab.
- Select COM port with the name Agere Systems AC'97 Modem.
- Click the More Info button.
- Check Command | Response window to check the result of ATI3. The version of the driver installed is displayed.
