Note: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/uninstall wizard for the device driver in the following operating systems:
- Windows 98SE
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP
- Start Windows 98SE.
- Extract this package onto your hard drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel.
- Double-click System icon.
- Click Device Manager tab.
- Click + mark to expand Network adapters.
- Right-click BroadCom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet in Network adapters or PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver... button.
- Click the Next button in Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
- Select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now. (Recommended).
- Click the Next button.
- Select Specify a location: only.
- Specify the path to sub-directory \WIN98SE with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 1 in Specify a location:.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.
- Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
- Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.
Clean install (Add New Hardware Wizard)
If this is the first time to boot Windows 98SE, the operating system detects the Ethernet Controller automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below.
- Start Windows 98SE.
- Extract this package onto your hard drive.
- It displays Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box.
- Click the Next button.
- Select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended).
- Continue with steps 11 - 19 in Windows 98SE Update install.
- Start Windows 2000.
- Extract this package onto your hard drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager... button
- Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
- Right-click BroadCom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet in Network adapters or Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver... button.
- Click the Next button in Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
- Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
- Click the Next button.
- Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
- Click the Next button.
- Specify the path to sub-directory \WIN2K with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 1 in Copy manufacturer's files from:.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.
- Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
- Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

- Start Windows 2000. It displays Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box.
- Click the Next button.
- Continue with steps 12 - 20 in Windows 2000 Update install.
- Start Windows XP.
- Extract this package onto your hard drive.
- Click Start and Control Panel.
- Click the Performance and Maintenance and System icon.
- Click the Hardware tab.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
- Right-click BroadCom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet in Network adapters or Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver... button.
- Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
- Click the Next button in Hardware Upgrade Wizard dialog box.
- Select Search for the best driver in these locations. and Include this location in the search: only.
- Specify the path to sub-directory \WINXP with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 1 in Include this location in the search:.
- Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.
- Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
- Click the Close button.
If this is the first time to boot Windows XP, the OS detects the Ethernet Controller automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below.
- Extract this package onto your hard drive.
- Start Windows XP.
- It displays Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box.
- Continue with steps 11 through 17 of Windows XP Update install.
Unattended Installation
Use the DOS driver for unattended installation. For customers who need unattended installation, the DOS driver (B57.DOS) is included in \NDIS2 sub-directory in this package. Unattended installation instructions are also included in UNATTEND sub-directory. The DOS driver can be used only for this purpose.
