This package provides the Wireless LAN driver and Utility Software for the following Wireless LAN adapters.

- IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II
- IBM 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter
- ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter
- ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter (II)

This release supports the following ThinkPad systems:

Summary of changes

    • [Important] The computer may hang with NMI parity error on blue screen when power save mode in the adapter properties is set to maximum.

Version 5.3.0.35h (7RWC08WW)

  • 5.3.0.35 (Microsoft Windows XP)
  • 5.3.0.35 (Microsoft Windows 2000)

    • (Fix) The system may hang with blue screen.
    • (Fix) Update installation may fail.

Driver limitations for Windows XP and 2000
  • If you currently use IEEE 802.1x authentication on Windows XP Service Pack 1 and do not use WPA encryption, it is recommended to uninstall Q826942 (WPA Supplicant update in Windows XP ) and Q815485 (WPA Wireless Security Update in Windows XP).
    To check if the Q826942 or Q815485 is installed and to uninstall it:
    1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
    2. For Windows XP with Classic Start menu, click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel. Otherwise, click Start, then click Control Panel.
    3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
    4. Click Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q826942 or Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q815485 if it is listed under Currently installed programs.
      Note: The above action will remove all the fixes within the update rollup package, Q826942. You may need to reinstall the other specific hotfixes you expect for this rollup package.
    5. Click Remove and follow the instructions on the screen.

  • If you use Windows 2000, please stop the Microsoft Wireless Configuration service if already installed. To check if the service is installed and to stop it:
    1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
    2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
    3. Double-click Administrative Tools then Services.
    4. Double-click Wireless Configuration if it is listed.
    5. Change Startup type to Disabled if it is not.
    6. Click OK.

  • You may need to re-enter security information after updating the Wireless LAN driver.
  • If you use Single Sign-On with the EAP-FAST authentication, Access Connections version 4.22 or higher is needed.

Installation information for Windows 2000, and XP
Note: The following software must be updated when you install this package.
  1. Start Windows 2000 or XP and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract this package to the hard drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run...
  4. Specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 2, and click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANATH\SETUP.EXE
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Reboot the system to complete the installation.

Unattended install
Note: This is for system administrators' use only.
  1. Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files.
  2. At the command line, execute SETUP.EXE with the -S option.

    Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANATH\SETUP.EXE -S

Uninstall
  1. Start Windows 2000 or XP and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Windows XP: Click Start, then click Control Panel.
    Windows 2000: Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Click ThinkPad Wireless LAN Adapters Software (11a/b, 11b/g, 11a/b/g).
  5. Click Change/Remove and follow the instructions.
  6. Restart the computer.

Determining which version is installed
  1. Start Windows XP, 2000.
  2. Windows 2000: Click Start, select Settings then click Control Panel. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
    Windows XP: Click Start, select Control Panel. Click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
  3. Click ThinkPad Wireless LAN Adapters Software(11ab, 11bg, 11abg).
  4. Click Click here for support information. The version number will be displayed.
