ThinkVantage Active Protection System for Windows Vista 32-bit, XP, 2000 - ThinkPad

This package provides the software required to activate the Active Protection System, which provides airbag-like protection for your hard drive, for Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit, Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 2000.

This release supports the following systems:
- ThinkPad R50, R50p, R51, R52, R60, R61, R61e, R61i
- ThinkPad R400, R500
- ThinkPad SL300, SL400, SL500
- ThinkPad T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p
- ThinkPad T60, T60p, T61, T61p
- ThinkPad T400, T500
- ThinkPad W500
- ThinkPad X40 (*1), X41, X41 Tablet
- ThinkPad X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, X61, X61s, X61 Tablet,
- ThinkPad X200, X300
- ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t
- ThinkPad Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t
- ThinkPad Reserve Edition

Note:
*1 ThinkPad X40 BIOS version 1UET62WW (1.13) or higher and Embedded Controller Program 1UHT58WW (1.12) or higher are required to enable ThinkVantage Active Protection System. Please update if needed, links are provided below.

Summary of changes

Version 1.61

  • (New) Support for ThinkPad SL300, SL400, SL500.
  • (New) Support for ThinkPad R400,R500,T400,T500,W500,X200 (added).

Installation instructions

Notes:

Install for Windows Vista 32-bit, XP, 2000
  1. Start Windows and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Double-click the driver package to extract it onto the hard drive.
    The default extraction path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\HPROTECT.
  3. For Windows Vista 32-bit, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run.
    For Windows XP or 2000, click Start, then click Run.
  4. Specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step and click OK.
    Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\HPROTECT\SETUP.EXE
  5. Follow the instructions then restart the system.

Unattended install for Windows Vista 32-bit, XP, 2000
This is for system administrators' use only.
  1. Start Windows and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Double-click the driver package to extract it onto the hard drive.
    The default extraction path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\HPROTECT.
  3. For Windows Vista 32-bit, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run.
    For Windows XP or 2000, click Start, then click Run.
  4. Specify SETUP.EXE -s -v"/qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress" with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK.
    Example:
    C:\DRIVERS\WIN\HPROTECT\SETUP.EXE -s -v"/qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress"

Uninstall for Windows Vista 32-bit
  1. Start Windows and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel then click Programs.
  3. Under Programs and Features, click Uninstall a program.
  4. Right-click ThinkVantage Active Protection System, (a previous version of this software may be listed as IBM Active Protection System) and select Uninstall.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen

Uninstall for Windows XP, 2000
  1. Start Windows and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Select ThinkVantage Active Protection System. (A previous version of this software may be listed as IBM Active Protection System)
  5. Click Change/Remove.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Restart the system.

Determining which version is installed
Windows Vista 32-bit
  1. Start Windows Vista 32-bit.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click System and Maintenance, then click System.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Double-click ThinkVantage Active Protection.
  6. Click the Driver tab and the driver version will be displayed.

Windows XP, 2000
  1. Start Windows XP, 2000.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click ThinkVantage Active Protection.
  4. Click Real-time Status tab on Hard Drive Active Protection System Properties. The version information will appear under "Software Version."
