This package provides the Display Driver (Intel 852GM/GME/855GM/GME) for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.

This package supports the Display Driver for the following systems:
- ThinkPad G41
- ThinkPad R50e

Notes:
- For ThinkPad G41 systems only, refer to the following link for assistance determining the correct display driver for your ThinkPad system.

- For ThinkPad R50e systems only, update the display driver and the system BIOS at the same time using the Software Installer.

Additional information

Note:
Systems with the Intel 2200 or Intel 2915 wireless adapter may hang when the power is disconnected. In some rare cases, when an Intel 2200 or 2915 wireless adapter is updated to the latest version (9.0.1.21), the system may freeze when the power is disconnected from the system. To work-around this issue you will need to change your graphics properties.

  1. Right-click the desktop.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. Click the Advanced button.
  5. Click Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for Mobile.
  6. Click the Graphic Options button.
  7. Click the Power Scheme Settings button.
  8. Uncheck the box for the "Intel Dual-Frequency Graphics Technology".
  9. Click Apply.
  10. Click OK.

I. Summary of changes version
Version 6.14.10.3732

  • (New) (Initial release) Support for ThinkPad R50e.

Version 6.14.10.3879

  • (New) Support ThinkPad G41/X40.
  • (Fix) After LID close/open operation, only the CRT display device shows the screen.
  • (Fix) The remote function in Tivoli application shows the blank screen only on the Windows logon condition.
  • (Fix) 2048x1536 does not show properly on an T210 monitor.
  • (Fix) The "Mystify" screen saver does not work with 2048x1536 resolution.
  • (Fix) Can not set some resolution/color depth with 2048x1536 resolution.
  • (Fix) The ALTGr+i key combination does not work on a UK keyboard.

Version 6.14.10.3943

  • (ThinkPad R50e/X40 only) Due to specification changes by Intel, from the version 6.14.10.3943 of display driver, support for 32 bit color depth was dropped in the following screen settings:
    • 2048x1536 screen resolution
    • 1600x1200 screen resolution with over 100Hz of screen refresh rate.


    To use the 32 bit color depth in the above screen settings, do not update the display driver and remain to use the old versions (6.14.10.3879 or lower).

  • After creating a new scheme of extended desktop with Presentation Director at the first time, an error message appears on the screen.
  • The extended desktop function may not work in high resolution screen mode.
  • Screen scroll function may not work correctly on the LCD if both the LCD and external display are enabled and have high resolution screens.
  • Some DVD titles are not played back smoothly.
  • DVD titles may not be played back on the extended desktop screen.

II. Installation instructions for Windows 2000/XP
Notes:
  • Software Installer provides install/uninstall wizard for this package.
  • Before updating the display driver, confirm the System BIOS level first. If you install the display driver with a back level System BIOS, it will cause problems with the 3D Screen saver.
  1. Start Microsoft Windows 2000/XP, logon with a User ID of Administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY\SETUP in the Open box and click OK.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.

Unattended install
This is for system administrators' use only.
  1. Start Windows 2000/XP, logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard drive.
  3. Click Start and then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY\SETUP -S -SMS in the Open box and click OK. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

III. Determining which version is installed
Windows 2000
  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Display icon.
  4. Select the Settings tab.
  5. Click the Advanced button.
  6. Select the "Intel Graphics Technology" tab. The graphics driver version should be listed on this screen.

Windows XP
  1. Start Windows XP.
  2. Click Start and then Control Panel.
  3. Click Appearance and Themes.
  4. Click the Display icon.
  5. Click the Settings tab.
  6. Click the Advanced button.
  7. Click the Adapter tab.
  8. Click the Properties button.
  9. Click the Driver tab. The version number will be displayed.

IV. Limitations
ThinkPad G41
  • The highest screen refresh rate of external display is 100 Hz.
  • When creating the new scheme of external display with Presentation Director, attach the external display to your system, and then check the display screen.

ThinkPad R50e

  • Due to specification changes by Intel, from the version 6.14.10.3943 of display driver, support for 32 bit color depth was dropped in the following screen settings:
    • 2048x1536 screen resolution
    • 1600x1200 screen resolution with over 100Hz of screen refresh rate.
  • To use the 32 bit color depth in the above screen settings, do not update the display driver and remain to use the old versions (6.14.10.3879 or lower).
  • The highest screen refresh rate of external display is 100 Hz.
  • When creating the new scheme of external display with Presentation Director, attach the external display to your system, and then check the display screen.
