The following ThinkPad computers are supported:
- ThinkPad G41
Note: If you use the Product Recovery function shipped with your ThinkPad to restore the Windows preload environment, you do not need this package. This package is required when you install Windows Operating Systems without the Product Recovery function. |

II. Installation Instructions
Note: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/uninstall wizard for the device driver in the following operating systems:
Windows XP SP 2 or later
How to enable the fix
- Extract this package to your hard drive.
- Click Start and click Run...
- In the Open field type, C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MPHALFIX\XPSP2\enablefix.reg.
How to disable the fix
- Extract this package to your hard drive.
- Click Start and click Run...
- In the Open field type, C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MPHALFIX\XPSP2\disablefix.reg.
Windows XP SP 1
Note: Before enabling the fix, you have to install QFE 835730, Multiprocessor HAL Problem Fix. If you use the preinstalled operating system image, it is available under C:\IBMTOOLS\OSFIXES\WXPUP\Q835730
How to enable the fix
- Right-click My Computer, and click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab, and click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
- Click Edit under System startup and open Notepad.
- Add the /usepmtimer switch to the entry of [operating systems] section. The following is a sample of BOOT.INI file after adding the /usepmtimer switch.

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /usepmtimer
Note: * If there are two or more entries, add it to an entry to fix.
- Save BOOT.INI file and close Notepad.
- Reboot the system.
Note: On Windows XP Professional SP1, you can utilize the bootcfg command. EnableFix.bat in the C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MPHALFIX\XPSP1 folder is a sample of how to use bootcfg. You can use it to enable the fix for the boot ID 1 entry instead of the above steps.
How to disable the fix
- Right-click My Computer, and click Properties.

- Delete the /usepmtimer switch from entry of [operating systems] section.
- Save the BOOT.INI file and close Notepad.
- Reboot the system.
