This BIOS Update Utility updates the BIOS (system program including the Embedded Controller (EC) program) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.
This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad T60, T60p
The following operating systems are supported: - Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit - Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit (*1) - Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional) - Microsoft Windows 2000
Notes: *1: Windows Vista 64-bit supports Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processors only. - If Windows Vista 64-bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the bootable CD ISO format of this BIOS update.
Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment.
You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS.
If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
Print these instructions or display on another computer.
Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
Start Windows Vista, XP, or 2000 and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer.
Save this package onto the hard drive.
For Windows Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run...
For Windows XP/2000, click Start, then click Run...
Specify the file name with the full path name where you saved the package
(e.g. C:\Temp\79UJxxUS.EXE) and then click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
After a License Agreement, extract this package to an appropriate directory.
(e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\79UJxxUS)
For Windows Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run...
For Windows XP/2000, click Start, then click Run...
Specify a WINUPTP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package
(e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\79UJxxUS\WINUPTP.EXE) and then click OK.
Note:
For unattended update, specify the file name with options "-s". (e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\79UJxxUS\WINUPTP.EXE -s) The BIOS is updated without any user interaction.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Select Update ThinkPad BIOS and follow the instructions on the screen.
Attention:
Do not turn off or suspend the system until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the system while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
After the update has been completed, the program shows a message "Flash Update has been successfully completed..."
Do the following to make sure the BIOS is updated correctly.
Turn off the system.
Turn on the system.
While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left of the screen, press the F1 key.
The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
Verify the BIOS version and date.
Turn off the system.
Initializing the BIOS
BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings:
Turn off the system.
Turn on the system.
While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password.
Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
Select Yes.
Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.
Select Yes.
Notes:
After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you had changed previously.
After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically.
BIOS information
Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the following system program (BIOS) and the Embedded Controller program. The BIOS Version and the and the the Embedded Controller version number can be viewed by entering the BIOS Setup Utility.
Turn off the system.
Turn on the system.

Notes:
(*1) This area becomes free by disabling the Internal Network Option ROM option under Config and Network in BIOS Setup Utility. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features.
(*2) This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the BIOS Setup Utility. This choice does not affect using USB devices in Windows operating systems.
