This package installs the Ethernet driver and Intel PROSet software for Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit. This enables or updates the following LAN adapters:

- Intel 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection
- Intel 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection

This release supports the following ThinkPad systems:

- Reserve Edition (*1)
- R61 Machine types: 7732, 7733, 7734, 7735, 7736, 7737, 7738, 7742, 7743, 7744, 7751, 7753, 7754, 7755, 8914, 8918, 8919, 8920, 8927, 8928, 8929

Summary of changes

Version 9.7.255.0 Build 162286

  • (New) Added support for Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection.

  • (Fix) Corrected the name of additional package guided in the Unattended Install section.
  • (Fix) Extra battery power is consumed when the AC adapter is detached from the computer in hibernation mode if the Wake On LAN option of this card's properties is disabled in the Device Manager.

  • (Fix) Downloading large files from IPSec server may fail.

Installation instructions

Notes:

  • For PROSet users:
    If a prior versions of Intel PROSet was installed, you should be aware of the following changes with Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager;
    • There is no system tray icon.
    • The configuration utility is not accessible from the Control Panel or the Start menu.
    • All Intel PROSet features are now accessed from Device Manager. To access features, simply open the Device Manager and double-click the Intel adapter you would like to configure.
  1. Start Windows Vista and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click System and Maintenance, then click System.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Expand the Network adapters category.
  6. Right-click Intel 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection or Intel 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection, then select Update Driver Software...
  7. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  8. Click Browse..., then select one of the following driver locations:
    For Windows Vista 32-bit, the default location is C:\Drivers\VISTA\ETHERNET\PRO1000\Win32
    For Windows Vista 64-bit, the default location is C:\Drivers\VISTA\ETHERNET\PRO1000\Winx64
  9. Select Include subfolders, then click Next.
  10. Click Close when the installation has completed.

Installation instructions for Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager

Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager is an extension to the Windows Device Manager. When you install the Intel PROSet software, additional tabs are automatically added to Device Manager.

  1. Start Windows Vista and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run...
  3. Specify DxSetup.exe with the full path name where you extracted the package and click OK.
    Example for Windows 32-bit:
    C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\APPS\PROSETDX\Vista32\DxSetup.exe
    Example for Vista 64-bit:
    C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\APPS\PROSETDX\Vistax64\DxSetup.exe
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, then click Next.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Install.
  8. Click Finish.

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your system, use the following instructions:

  1. Start Windows Vista and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click System and Maintenance, then click System.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Expand the Network adapters category.
  6. Double-click Intel 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection or Intel 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection.
  7. Click the Driver tab and the driver version will be displayed.
