This package provides the ISO image file of 'PC-Doctor DOS' which is compatible with CD/DVD/BD writing software to create the CD/DVD/BD for the PC-Doctor DOS.
Supported ThinkPad systems: - R400, R500, - T400, T400s, T500 - W500, W700, W700ds - X200, X200s, X200 Tablet, X300, X301
Notes: - The PC-Doctor DOS CD can boot the computer disregarding the operating systems and perform diagnostic programs. - For that purpose, it is necessary to have the CD/DVD/BD writing software (with CD/DVD/BD creation function from the ISO image file) prepared separately. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. |

- PC-Doctor DOS provides some benchmark tests, for example, a test to indicate how much battery power remains. Results of such tests might differ from the specifications provided in the user's guide and catalog. The results vary depending on the testing method and the testing environment, and Lenovo does not guarantee these results.
- You should install the CD/DVD/BD writing software which supports CD/DVD/BD creation function from the ISO image file to create the PC-Doctor DOS CD.
- You should have an Ultrabay Slim or Ultrabay Enhanced optical drive to boot the computer from the PC-Doctor DOS CD. Any types of USB, PC Card, CardBus PC Card or ExpressCard optical drive are not supported.
- To boot the computer from the PC-Doctor DOS CD, you may need to change the boot device setting in your ThinkPad computer. Refer to the Preparing the boot device section in this document.
- The contents of the PC-Doctor DOS CD can not be shown by Windows Explorer.
This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. [Downloading files]
- Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear.
- In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance.
- Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.
- After being downloaded, the file will need to be extracted.
[Extracting files]
- Open Windows Explorer and locate the directory where the file was downloaded.
- Locate the file that was just downloaded and double-click it.
- The file will begin to extract in the directory where the downloaded file is located. The default location is:
C:\DRIVERS\WIN\PCDRDOS.
[Creating PC-Doctor DOS CD]
- Prepare a computer with an optical drive installed and a blank CD/DVD/BD disc, and make sure the CD/DVD/BD writing software is installed into the computer.
- Open Windows Explorer and locate the directory where the files were extracted in the step 3 under Extracting files section.
- Double-click an ISO image (*.ISO) file. The CD/DVD/BD writing software will automatically start.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete.
Confirm that an optical drive is in the boot device list of your BIOS setup.
- Power off the computer.
- Power on the computer.
- While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- Choose Startup from the menu.
- Choose Boot from the menu. Note the current boot priority order for restoration later if you need to modify your boot list.
- In Boot Priority Order, make sure ATAPI CD0 (for the Ultrabay Slim or Ultrabay Enhanced optical drives) is on top of ATA HDD0.
- Press the F3 key to exit, or press the F10 key to save the new setup and then select Yes.
- Restart the computer.
- Make sure the target ThinkPad computer has an optical drive installed.
- Insert the PC-Doctor DOS CD into the optical drive and turn on the computer. PC-Doctor DOS will start.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- After performing the diagnostics, remove the PC-Doctor DOS CD from the optical drive and turn off the computer.

- Run PC-Doctor DOS.
- Select Quit menu by keyboard or mouse.
- Select About. Version Number is shown.
Note:
This version information does not show minor version.
For example, the version 2.0.651a shows version 2.0.651.
- The additional hard drive may appear in the Surface Scan Hard Disk Utility and the Erase Hard Drive. But this is not an actual device failure because this PC-Doctor DOS CD is used as a virtual hard drive.

Before starting several tests, Serial ATA (SATA) setting must be changed by the BIOS Setup Utility, as follows:

Setting change is needed for the following tests:
- Fixed Disks Linear Verify
- Fixed Disks Random Verify
- Analog Devices HDA CODEC Test
- Once Modem/Audio test is done, the no sound is heard in the Internal Speaker test. In this case, turn off and turn on the computer. Then, run the Internal Speaker test again.
- This software can only be used with the machines on the supported models on this page. Use of this software with any other machines is strictly prohibited.

- To run PC-Doctor DOS by booting the computer from the CD-R/CD-RW disc, it is necessary to have the CD-R/CD-RW writing software (with CD-R/CD-RW creation function from the ISO image file) prepared separately.
- The CD-R/CD-RW disc for PC-Doctor DOS does not support any optical disc drives connected through USB devices, PC Cards, CardBus cards or any others. It only supports internal optical disc drives (CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD Combo and DVD Multi drives) on ThinkPad systems.
