BIOS update utility - ThinkPad SL300, SL400, SL400c, SL500 and SL500c
Applicable countries and regions
This BIOS Update Utility updates the BIOS (system program including the Embedded Controller (EC) program) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.

Supported ThinkPad systems:
- SL300, SL400, SL400c, SL500, SL500c

Supported Operating Systems:
- Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit, 32-bit)
- Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit, 32-bit)
- Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional)

Notes:
- If Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit version or Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit version has been installed on your system, use the BIOS Update CD for the BIOS update.
- This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

  • (Fix) The display brightness set in Power Manager may change by a certain operation.

Installation Instructions

NOTES

To verify if KB937500 is installed properly,

  1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  2. Find "Programs and Features" and click. If this option does not exist on the window, choose Classic View to find it.
  3. On Tasks pane, click on View installed updates.
  4. Verify that KB937500 is included in the list of installed updates.
Updating the BIOS

Notes:

  • If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section.
  • You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS.
  • If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
  • Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment.
  • If the computer uses a retail Windows or a private image instead of the Lenovo's preload image, ATK Hotkey driver needs to be installed prior to executing BIOS Update Utility.

Attention:

Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

Manual Update
  1. Print these instructions or display on another computer.
  2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the target computer.
  3. Start Windows 7, Vista, XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer.
  4. Double-click 6auj15us.exe to extract it to your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\6auj15us.exe
  5. For Windows Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run....
    For Windows XP, click Start, then click Run....
  6. Specify WINUPTP.EXE with the full path name where you saved the package, then click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\6auj15us\WINUPTP.EXE
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  8. Select Update ThinkPad BIOS and follow the instructions on the screen.
  9. After the update has been completed, the system shuts down and reboots automatically.
Unattended Update

Note:
This procedure is intended only for system administrators. The BIOS is updated without any user interaction.

  • Refer to the "Manual Update" section, and download and extract the files.
  • At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -S option. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\6auj15us\WINUPTP -s

To view the update result, refer to the WINUPTP.log file created at the same directory of the package.

 

Initializing the BIOS

BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings:

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. While the To interrupt normal startup, press the Lenovo Care button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS SETUP UTILITY menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
  5. Select Ok.
  6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.
  7. Select Ok.
  8. Restart the computer.

Notes:

  • After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you had changed previously.

 

Determining which Version is Installed

Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the following system program (BIOS) and the Embedded Controller program (ECP). The BIOS Version and the and the the Embedded Controller (EC) version number can be viewed by entering the BIOS Setup Utility.

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. While the To interrupt normal startup, press the Lenovo Care button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
    The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  4. Check System BIOS Version and EC BIOS Version.
  5. Turn off the computer.
