ThinkVantage GPS for Windows Vista and XP - ThinkPad L410, L510, SL300, SL400, SL400c, SL410, SL500, SL500c, SL510, T400, T400s, T500, W500, X200, X200s and X301
Applicable countries and regions
ThinkVantage GPS (Global Positioning System) receives signals from the GPS satellites and determines the location of your ThinkPad.

GPS function in the following adapter cards are supported.
- Ericsson HSDPA Wireless WAN Adapter
- Qualcomm UNDP Wireless WAN Adapter

Supported ThinkPad systems:
- L410, L510
- SL300, SL400, SL400c, SL410, SL500, SL500c, SL510
- T400, T400s, T500
- W500
- X200, X200s, X301

Supported Operating Systems:
- Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit, 64-bit
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Professional

Summary of Changes

Version 2.30

Requirements

Before installing ThinkVantage GPS, install the following software.

[Windows Vista]

[Windows XP]

Update Wireless WAN adapter software for each adapter, as follows.

 

Installation Instructions

Notes: If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section.

Manual Install
  1. Start Windows and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Double-click the driver package to extract it to your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\GPS.
  3. Execute setup.exe in the extract folder and follow the instructions on the screen.
Unattended Install

Note: This is for system administrators' use only:

  • Refer to the "Manual Install" section, and download and expand the files.
  • At the command line, execute setup.exe with the /s /v"/qn" options. Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\GPS\setup /s /v"/qn"

 

Uninstallation Instructions

[Windows Vista]

  1. Select Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs and Features.
  3. Right-Click ThinkVantage GPS and then select Uninstall menu.

[Windows XP]

  1. Select Control Panel.
  2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Select ThinkVantage GPS and then click Remove button.

 

Determining which Version is Installed

To check which version is installed, please perform the following steps.

  1. Start the ThinkVantage GPS. The main screen will be displayed.
  2. In the Help menu, click About.
  3. The version of ThinkVantage GPS will be displayed.

Reference Information
  • 3rd party GPS application which is launched from GPSE shows a COM port error if other GPSE application is running. To make a 3rd party application run, either it should be configured in GPSE to run from GPSE application or a running GPSE application should be terminated.
  • When 3rd party application which has been launched from GPSE is terminated, GPS data is stopped getting updated in GPSE, because COM port is closed.
