BIOS Update (Diskette) - ThinkPad 770X

The BIOS Update enhances certain ThinkPad systems to address operational issues, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.
This release supports the following system: - ThinkPad 770X
Note: - The Release Date given below now matches the date shown in BIOS. - This file was released to the Web on March 29, 2000. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

I. Summary of changes
version 1.10 - BIOS:IIET42WW, slave:IIHT07WW
- (New) Microsoft Windows XP Support
- (Fix) OS installation failure with CD-ROM boot
- (Fix) Linux system fails with memory size detection. Linux system only.
- (Fix) System doesn't boot with hard disk drives which use all of root directory.

II. Installation instructions
Notes:
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program.
- If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
- Print these instructions or display on another computer.
- Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
- Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer.
- Select Read this first... from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
- Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
- Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective.
- Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer.
- Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
- If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
- Select Config, then select Initialize.
- Select OK to initialize the system.
Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors:
- Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears.
- Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests. Various test patterns will appear on the screen. An OK will appear for each device that passes the test.
- Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested.
- Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.

The BIOS information can be viewed by selecting "System Information" in the "BIOS Utility" menu:
- Power on the system.
- When the message "Press F1 for IBM BIOS setup Utility" appears at the bottom right hand corner, press the F1 key. Wait for the "BIOS Utility" screen to appears.
- Select System Information. BIOS version is displayed at "System BIOS Version" line.
IV. Slave Controller information
The slave controller manages the Power Management functions of the system.

The slave controller version number can be viewed by running the ThinkPad Configurator utility from your operating system and selecting System Information from the Help menu or by clicking on the System Information button.
The slave controller information can also be found by invoking Easy-Setup and selecting Config followed by System Board.
V. Memory information
The following information shows memory areas that are either unavailable or that can be included with a memory manager such as EMM386.

F0000-FFFFF (Reserved for BIOS)
Usable BIOS ROM area
