Video driver for Windows 95/98/Me - ThinkPad 390, 172x, 1400 (2611)

This package provides the video driver for Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me users.
The video driver enables or updates the video function of the following ThinkPad systems: - ThinkPad 390, 390E, 390X - ThinkPad i Series 1720-1721-1781 - ThinkPad i Series 1400(*)
(*) Note for ThinkPad i Series 1400 - Support for Windows Me users only. - Only the following Model-Type numbers are supported: 2611 - 40x, 412, 452, 456, 47x, 49x, (43x's except 434, 435)

Notes:
- This driver will now automatically extract to your hard disk drive. It will only extract under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.
- If you can not install the driver in Windows 95, please install the Microsoft Y2K supplement, then reinstall again. You can find the Y2K supplement in Microsoft home page .
- If you get a message about nmgc5.cat file is missing, please skip this file. This file is for a logoed driver and is not necessary for the installation complete successfully.

I. Summary of changes

II. Installation instructions for Windows Me
- Start Windows Me.
- Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start , select Settings , then click Control Panel .
- Double-click the Display icon.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Click the Adapter tab.
- Click the Change button. The Update Device Driver Wizard dialog window appears.
- Select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced) and click Next .
- Select Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location , so you can select the driver you want and click Next .
- Click Have Disk .
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY and click OK to bring up the video driver list. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Click NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV for Windows 95/98/Me in the list, and then click Next .
- Select NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV and click OK . If Update Driver Warning dialog box appears, then click Yes to continue the installation.
- Click Next . Windows Me will start copying files. If you see a following message, click No . A file being copied is older than the file currently on your computer. It is recommended that your existing file.
- After copying files are finished, click Finish .
- Click Yes to restart the system.
III. Installation instructions for Windows 98
- Start Windows 98.
- Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- Click the Setting tab.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Click the Adapter tab.
- Click the Change button. The Update Device Driver Wizard dialog window appears.
- Click the Next button.
- Select Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location , so you can select the driver you want.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Have Disk button. The Install From Disk window will appear.
- In the Copy manufacturer's files from: box, type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY and click the OK button to bring up the video driver list. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Confirm NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV is selected in the Models: field and click OK . If Windows 98 displays Update Driver Warning message box, click Yes to continue to install.
- Make sure the location is same one that you specified above, then click Next . Windows 98 copies all driver files to your system.
- After driver files are copied, click Finish.
- Click Close.
- Select color depth and resolution.
- Click Close in Display Properties dialog.
- Windows 98 prompts you to restart the computer to make the display driver change effective.
IV. Installation instructions for Windows 95 (Retail Version, Service Pack 1)
- Start Windows 95.
- Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon
- Select the Settings tab.
- Click the Change Display Type button.
- Click the Change button under Adapter type field.
- Click the Have Disk button.
- In the Copy manufacturer's files from: box, type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY and click the OK button to bring up the video driver list. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Confirm NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV is selected in the Models : field and click OK. Windows 95 copies all driver files to your system.
- After driver files are copied, click Close .
- Select your screen parameters from the Color palette, Desktop area, and Font size; then click OK.
- Click Close ; then click Close again.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer to make the display driver change effective.
V. Installation instructions for Windows 95 (OSR2: OEM Service Release 2)
- Start Windows 95.
- Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Click the Advanced Properties button.
- Click the Adapter tab.
- Click the Change button in the Adapter tab.
- Click the Have Disk button.
- In the Copy manufacturer's files from : box, type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY and click the OK button to bring up the video driver list. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Confirm NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV is selected in the Models: field and click OK . Windows 95 copies all driver files to your system.
- After driver files are copied, click Close.
- Select your screen parameters from the Color palette, Desktop area, and Font size; then click OK.
- Click Close.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Windows 95 prompts you to restart the computer to make the display driver change effective.
Tips:
This version of display driver uses the following settings in NMGC5.INF file to enable/disable bitmap cache feature.
HKR,DEFAULT,Disable_DevBitmap,1,00 : enable bitmap cache
HKR,DEFAULT,Disable_DevBitmap,1,01 : disable bitmap cache
To enable/disable the bitmap cache, the user is expected to change the setting in the NMGC5.INF file and install this driver again.
Note:
If you disable the bitmap cache, the video performance will be degraded. Please carefully decide if you disable the bitmap cache to fix some problems or prevent from the video performance degradation.
VI. Determining what version is installed
(for Windows 98 and Windows 95 OSR2 (OEM Service Release 2))
- Start Windows 95/98.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display icon.
- Click the Setting tab.
- Click the Advanced (Properties) button.
- Click the Adapter tab. The version is displayed in the last section of the software version line.
E xample:
Software Version: 4.11.01.5208-Q2.08.02
In this case the version is: 2.08.02Q.
