Supplement file diskette II for Windows 98 - ThinkPad 570/E, X2*
Applicable countries and regions
The ThinkPad systems listed below incorporates several new devices that were not available when Microsoft Windows 98 was announced. This package provides the supplement files to support the new devices and to fix some problems for Windows 98 users.

This package contains:
- Updated INF files for Laptop resolution,
- Texas Instruments PCI CardBus support and registry patch file for CardBus/Ethernet Port Replicator support.
- APM mode installation file for Windows 98 Second Edition
- LCD Panel Color Profile support

This release supports the following system:
- ThinkPad 570, 570E
- ThinkPad X20, X21, X22, X23, X24
- ThinkPad i Series 1157

Notes:
- This file is language independent and can be used with any language system.
- If you use the Product Recovery CD-ROM shipped with your ThinkPad to restore the Windows 98 preload environment, you do not need this package. This package is required when you install Windows 98 without the Product Recovery CD-ROM.

II. Installation instructions
NOTE: The following instructions apply to both Windows 98 Gold (version 4.10.1998) and to Windows 98 Second Edition (version 4.10.2222A) .

  1. Extract this package to a floppy diskette.
  2. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98 CD-ROM to your hard disk drive (HDD) as follows.
    1. Make a temporary directory ( for instance, C:\WIN98) and make sure enough HDD space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free space varies depending on the language of Windows 98).
    2. At a prompt, type COPY src_cd :\WIN98\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir and then press Enter. Where src_cd is the drive letter of CD-ROM drive (e.g. D, E,..) and tgt_drv:\tgt_dir is the drive letter and temporary directory made in step 1.a (e.g. C:\WIN98).

  1. Insert the supplemental file diskette in the diskette drive and copy the updated INF files to the temporary directory as follows:
Windows 98 users type: COPY A:\W98GOLD\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir
Windows 98 Second Edition users type: COPY A:\W98SE\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir
Where tgt_drv:\tgt_dir is the drive letter and temporary directory made in step 1.a (e.g. C:\WIN98).
  1. Use the following commands to start the installation from the temporary directory:
Windows 98 users type: C:\tgt_dir\SETUP.EXE
Windows 98 Second Edition users type: C:\tgt_dir\SETUP.EXE C:\tgt_dir\APMINST.INF
Where tgt_dir is the name of the temporary directory is where you copied the installation files (e.g. WIN98).
  1. Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
  2. Use the following instructions to apply APM2APM.reg information to Windows 98:
    1. Boot the system to the Windows 98 desktop.
    2. Insert the Windows 98 supplemental file diskette.
    3. Click Start and then click Run.
    4. Type A:\APM2APM\APM2APM.reg and click the OK button. The following Registry Editor's windows will appear: "Are you sure you want to add the information A:\apm2apm\apm2apm.reg to the registry?"
    5. Click Yes . A successful windows message will be displayed.
    6. Cick OK to exit the registry editor screen.

The following steps only apply to Windows 98 Second Edition (98SE):
Use the following instructions to apply the LCD Color Profile to Windows 98SE

  1. Start Windows 98SE.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Display icon.
  4. Click the Settings tab.
  5. Click the Advanced button.
  6. Click the Monitor tab.
  7. Click the Change button.
  8. Click the Have Disk button.
  9. Specify the directory where ibm_tp.inf and IBM_tp.icm files exist (under A:\) and click OK.
  10. Select IBM_tp.inf and click OK.
  11. From the list of resolutions, select the resolution for your system.
  12. Click Apply.
  13. Select Color Management tab to make sure IBM_tp.icm file is loaded.
