Modem driver IV for Windows XP - ThinkPad 1200, 1300

This package provides the Modem driver for Microsoft Windows XP users.

This package enables or updates the modem function of the following ThinkPad computers:

- ThinkPad i Series 1200 Machine type 1161 (Models - 43*, 73*, 93*, 94*, 96*)
- ThinkPad i Series 1300 Machine type 1171 (Models - 4**, 5CU, 5X*, 6MU, 6XU, 7XG, 8MU, 8XU, 9MU, 9X*)

NOTE:
- Your machine type is located on the bottom of your system, just above the bar code symbol.
- This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

I. Summary of changes
Version 3.1.97
- (New) Support for Windows XP

Version 3.1.97a
- (Fix) Setup installation fails with no error messages

II. Installation instructions
NOTES:

  • Prior to updating the modem driver, install the new ALi audio driver (version 5.12.01.5170 or later) to replace the native audio driver under Windows XP.
  • Because version 3.1.97a has only the setup installation fix, you do not have to install 3.1.97a if you have already installed 3.1.97.

Check the date stamp of the following file which is extracted on the hard disk drive to determine which version is extracted (3.1.97 or 3.1.97a).

To check the date/time of the file:

  1. Start Windows XP.
  2. Click Start, select Search, and then click All files and folders.
  3. In the All or part of the file named: field, type the file name listed above table.
  4. Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not extracted on your system.
  5. In the Found part of the window, check the date/time of the file and compare them with the values in the above list.

Version 3.1.97

  1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  4. Click the Performance and Maintenance icon.
  5. Click the System icon.
  6. Click the Hardware tab.
  7. Click the Device Manager button.
  8. Click the + mark beside Modem to expand the Modems section.
  9. Double-click Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR.
  10. Click the Driver tab.
  11. Click the Update Driver button.
  12. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and click Next.
  13. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and click Next.
  14. Click Have Disk...
  15. In the Copy manufacturer's files from field, specify the path where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK.
  16. Click Next.
  17. Click Finish when the installation completes.

Version 3.1.97a

  1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MODEM\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. If the Hardware Installation window appears, click Continue Anyway.
  7. Restart the system for the driver to take effect.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Start Windows XP.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click the Performance and Maintenance icon.
  4. Click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click Device Manager.
  7. Expand the Modem section.
  8. Select Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR.
  9. Right-click Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR, and select Properties.
  10. Click the Driver tab, and then click Driver Details.
  11. Click ltsm.sys from the Driver files list and check the file version.
