TP R30, R31 - Installing Windows XP

This document contains instructions for installing Microsoft Windows XP. Lenovo provides supplement files, driver files, upgrade patches, and preloaded software on the preload hard drive (HD) that comes with the system. The HD locations of these files and alternate locations, in cases where your HD is blank, are listed in the table below.

Preparing your ThinkPad computer for Windows XP
Before removing any software or operating system from your ThinkPad system, you will need to:
- Make sure the BIOS on your ThinkPad computer is at the latest level.
- Save the necessary driver, supplement, and software files on removable media.
Installing Windows XP
- Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD or DVD drive. Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Follow the instructions for the Install shield program.
- Install the device drivers. The device drivers are found in the C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS directory. There is also an installation procedure text file in that directory. After you install Windows XP, you will need to install the application software, which is provided in the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS directory on your hard drive.
