Microprocessor installation

To install a microprocessor on the 2292, 6343, 6349, 6350, 6790, 6791, 6792, 6793, 6794, 6795, 6823, and 6825 machine types, do the following:

  1. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect all external cables and power cords; then, remove the cover. For more information click Cover removal for the small desktop, Cover removal for the desktop, and Cover removal for the microtower.
  2. Remove the system boards. For more information click System board for small desktops, System board for desktops, and System board for microtowers.
  3. Lossen the two captured screws that hold the fansink in place, and pivot them off of the fansink notches.
  4. To remove the fansink from the processor, twist the fansink to break the seal formed by the thermal grease and remove.
    Note: If the thermal grease seal cannot be broken, you may want to start up the syststem to heat the processor and loosen the thermal grease.
  5. Pull out and lift up the processor socket lever arm upward to its maximum vertical position to release the processor.
  6. Lift the processor out of the system board.
    Note: When you install the new processor, make sure to reinstall the fansink to insure proper cooling.
