This video shows removal and installation of a Mini PCI modem card. Different model systems may have different Mini PCI cards such as an Ethernet/modem combo card. The procedure will be similar.
For ThinkPad T20, T21, and T22 systems, this video does not show the removal or installation of the card stopper, illustrated below, which secures the Mini PCI card in the socket. It is important to reinstall this clip to maintain connections in the Mini PCI socket.

To remove the Mini PCI modem:
Loosen the captive screw and remove the access panel.
Disconnect the cable
Release the latches, and lift the card out of the slot.
To install the Mini PCI modem:
Insert the modem at an angle into the connector.
Pivot the card until it snaps into position and connect the cable.
Insert the access panel and tighten the captive screw.
Notes:
Ethernet and modem cables are available in the bay.
Mini PCI Cards are coated to protect them from ESD damage.
