Audio driver II for Windows 98 - ThinkPad 1400, 1500 (2621, 2651)

This package provides the audio driver for Microsoft Windows 98 users.
Only the following Machine Types and Models are supported: - ThinkPad i Series 1400: 2621 - 422, 429, 442, 482, 483, 486, 489, 49x, 4Ex, 4Fx, 4Gx
- ThinkPad i Series 1500: 2651 - 542, 549, 54G, 562, 569, 56G, 592, 5FF
Note: - Your machine type and model number can be found on the bottom of the unit next to the bar code label. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. |

NOTE: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard drive. It will only extract under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.

I. Summary of changes
Version 5.12.01.3045
- (New) Support for ThinkPad i Series 1400 Type 2621-422/442/482/492/4E2
Version 5.12.01.3045
- (Fix) (Windows 98SE Traditional Chinese only) The audio driver cannot be installed completely by setup.exe.
- (Fix) When you install the audio driver in Polish or some languages, Installtion Messages/Panels are corrupted.
Version 5.12.01.3045 (WDM), 4.12.01.1164 (VxD)
- (Fix) The Quick time player with a Macromedia application may make noise.
NOTE: This problem is fixed by the VxD driver. If you have above problem, install only the VxD driver. If you do not have this problem, you do not need to install this driver release.
NOTE: If you installed the previously released version 5.12.01.3045, you do not need to install this version. Only the installer was changed, the functionality of this driver is the still the same.
II. Installation instructions
WDM driver
- Start Windows 98.
- Extract the audio drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Specify C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE and click OK.
- Follow the setup program.
- Select Upgrade Drivers and click Next to continue with the setup program.
- Click Finish.
- Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
- If the Insert Disk message appears, insert the Windows CD-ROM and/or specify the location where the Windows image exists.
- Follow the setup program.
- Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
VxD driver
Clean Installation
- Start Windows 98.
- Extract the audio drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Specify C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\98VxdDrv\SETUP.EXE and click OK.
- Follow the setup program.
- Select Upgrade Drivers and click Next to continue with the setup program.
- Click Finish.
- Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
Update Installation
- Start Windows 98.
- Extract the audio drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Double-click Sound, video and Game controllers to expand the heading.
- Double-click ESS Solo-1 PCI AudioDrive.
- Click on the Driver tab and click Update Driver...
- Click Next and choose Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now.(Recommended).
- Click Next.
- Only select Specify a location:.
- Specify the directory C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\98VxdDrv and click Next.
- Choose Install one of the other drivers then click View List...
- Choose ESS SOLO-1 PCI AudioDrive and click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Next.
- If the Insert Disk message appears, insert the Windows CD-ROM and/or specify the location where the Windows image exists.
- Follow the setup program.
- Click Finish.
- Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
III. Determining which version is installed
- Start Windows 98.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Open the System icon.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
- Expand the Sound, video and game controller section
- Select ESS SOLO-1 PCI AudioDrive and click Properties.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Driver File details button.

Highlight the following files:
- WDM - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\solo.sys.
- VxD - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\essolo.vxd
- The file has the version number embedded. For example: The file version is displayed as File version: 5.12.01.3045.
