- Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
- Extract the driver onto the hard drive.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the System icon.
- Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Double-click Mice and other pointing devices .
- Double-click either the PS/2 TrackPoint or PS/2 Compatible Mouse whichever choice appears in the list.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard runs.
- Click the Next button.
- Click Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Have Disk button and specify the directory where the driver files are extracted, the default location is C:\DRIVERS\W2K\TPOINT.
- Click the OK button. Then driver list appears.
- Click IBM PS/2 TrackPoint in the list.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Next button.
- If you see the warning panel which asks if you want to replace the keyboard port driver(s) or not, click the Yes button.
- Click the Finish button in the Update Device Driver Wizard window.
- Click the Close button in the IBM PS/2 TrackPoint Properties window.
- Restart your system to make the new settings effective.
- Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
- Extract the driver to the hard drive.
- For Windows XP with Classic Start menu, click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel. Otherwise, click Start, then click Control Panel.
- For Windows XP with Category view of the Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance icon. Then, click the System icon. Otherwise, double-click the System icon.
- Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Double-click Mice and other pointing devices.
- Double-click either IBM PS/2 TrackPoint or PS/2 Compatible Mouse whichever choice appears in the list.
- Click the Driver tab.
- Click the Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard runs.
- Click the Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) option.
- Click Next.
- Click the Don't search. I will choose the driver to install. option.
- Click Next.
- Click Have Disk.
- Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Then click the OK button. Then driver list appears.
- Click IBM PS/2 TrackPoint in the list.
- Click Next.
- If you see the warning panel which asks if you want to replace the keyboard port driver(s) or not, click Yes.
- Click Finish in the Hardware Update Wizard window.
- Click Close in the IBM PS/2 TrackPoint Properties window.
- Restart your system to make the new settings effective.
- Start Windows 2000/XP, logon with administrative privileges.
- Extract this package onto the hard drive.
- Click Start then click Run.

- Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
- Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Select IBM TrackPoint Support.
- Click the Change/Remove button.
- Restart the system.
- Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
- For Windows XP with Classic Start menu, click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel. Otherwise, click Start, then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
- Select IBM TrackPoint Support.
- Click the Change/Remove button.
- Restart the system.
- Start Windows 2000.
- Click Start, select Search, then click For Files or Folders.
- Click the Name & Location tab.
- In the Named: field, type tp4track.sys.
- In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:, D:) .
- Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard drive for tp4track.sys. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system.
- In the Found part of the window, select the tp4track.sys file located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.
- Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column. The time stamp on the file will be the version number, "03:50a" - is version 3.50.
- Start Windows XP.
- For Windows XP with Classic Start Menu, click Start, select Search, and click For Files or Folders. Otherwise, click Start then click Search.
- In the Search Companion panel, click All filers.
- In the All or part of the file name: field, type tp4track.sys.
- In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard Drives (C:) or Local Hard Drives (C:,D:).
- Click the Search button. Windows will now search your hard drive for tp4track.sys. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system.
- In the Search Results panel, select the tp4track file located in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS.
- Right-click tp4track and click Properties.
- Click the Version tab. The version number is listed next to the File version: line.
