Audio driver package I for Windows Me - ThinkPad 1200, 1300
Applicable countries and regions
This package provides the audio driver for Microsoft Windows Me.

This package enables or updates the audio function of the following ThinkPad computers:

- ThinkPad i Series 1200 Machine type 1161 - 21x, 23x, 25x, 26x, 45N, 65N, RR5, RR6, RR7, RR8, WPM
- ThinkPad i Series 1300 Machine type 1171 - 310, 320, 330, 337, 33F, 340, 370, 377, 37F, NMU, RRA, RR6, RR7, RR8, RR9, VC1, VC2
- ThinkPad 130 Machine type 1171 - 334, 335, 374, 375

NOTES:
- Your machine type is located on the bottom of your system, just above the bar code symbol.
- This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

NOTE: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard disk drive. It will only extract under Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Me, Microsoft Windows NT, and Microsoft Windows 2000.

I. Summary of changes
version 5.12.01.4025
- (New) Support for ThinkPad i Series 1200
- (New) Support for ThinkPad i Series 1300

version 5.12.01.4026
- (Fix)(Windows Me JP) Cannot finish IBM ViaVoice Millennium Japanese version at setup of Adjusting the Microphone Level, because of microphone poor quality.

version 5.12.01.4028
- (Fix) No sound after playing MIDI file for long time(one hour).

II. Installation instructions
If you have newly installed Windows Me on the system, follow the procedure indicated as Clean Installation. Otherwise, follow the procedure indicated as Update Installation.

- Update Installation -

  1. Start Windows Me
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the system Properties window.
  6. Double click Sound, video and game controllers in the list.
  7. Click Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
  8. Click the Properties button.
  9. Click the Driver tab at the top of the Crystal WDM Audio Codec Properties window.
  10. Click the Update Driver button.
  11. Click the Next button on the Update Device Driver Wizard window.
  12. Click Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want.
  13. Click the Next button.
  14. Click the Have Disk button.
  15. Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO.
  16. Click the OK button.
  17. Click Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
  18. Click the OK button.
  19. If Update Driver Warning message appears, click Yes.
  20. Click the Next button.
  21. Click the Finish button.
  22. Restart the system for the driver to be effective.

- Clean Installation -

  1. Start Windows Me.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the System Properties window.
  6. Click PCI Multimedia Audio Device in the list.
  7. Click the Remove button.
  8. Click the OK button.
  9. Click the Refresh button.
  10. Click the Next button.
  11. Click the Next button.
  12. Check Specify a location, and type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO.
  13. Click the OK button.
  14. Click the Next button.
  15. Click the Next button.
  16. Click the Finish button.
  17. Restart the system for the driver to be effective.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Start Windows Me.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Open the System Icon.
  4. Click the Device Manager tab.
  5. Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section
  6. Select Crystal WDM Audio Codec and click on Properties.
  7. Click the Driver tab.
  8. Click the Driver File details button.
  9. Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVEERS\cwawdm.sys. The file has the version number embedded.
