Features

  • Compact Flash Type II form factor
  • PC card adapter for use in PCMCIA Type II slot
  • Hard disk drive (HDD) technology
  • Plug and Play removable storage
  • Easy customer installation
Take advantage of the latest removable disk drive technology by adding the 1GB Microdrive with PC Card to your ThinkPad notebook or NetVista desktop. This new Microdrive weighs less than a AA battery, has a footprint measuring less than one square inch, and can hold almost 700 times more data or images than a diskette. The Microdrive's very small size and high performance make it ideally suited for applications needing portability and having high data/image requirements.

The 1GB Microdrive with PC Card uses hard disk drive (HDD) technology to store information. It has an industry standard Compact Flash Type II form factor. The Microdrive's PC Card enables data to be shared among different ThinkPad notebooks and devices. Included with the Microdrive option is a PC Card adapter that lets you plug the Microdrive into a Type II PC card slot, which is standard on most currently marketed laptops and ThinkPad systems. The USB CompactFlash Reader can be used with laptops and desktops for USB connection of the Microdrive. A Compact Flash Type II slot is standard on the new ThinkPad X Series laptop.

Its small size and industry standard removable format (PC Card and Compact Flash Type II) make this Microdrive an ideal storage solution for "go anywhere" computing applications used by today's "go anywhere" mobile computer users.

Compatibility
Some configurations may not be compatible.

Limitations
The Microdrive is supported on Windows 95 via hotplug only. That is, the Microdrive is only properly recognized and operational when it is inserted into a PCMCIA socket with Windows 95 already booted and stable. This limitation has been determined to be due to the Microsoft supplied driver for these devices. Booting Windows 95 with the Microdrive in the PCMCIA slot results in the drive being recognized but not operational. Stopping the Microdrive, removal and reinsertion will result in the drive being recognized and operational.
