Audio driver III for Windows 98/Me - ThinkPad 1200, 1300
Applicable countries and regions
This package provides the audio driver for Microsoft Windows 98 users. This package enables or updates the audio function.

This release supports the following systems:
- ThinkPad i Series 1200 Machine Type
1161 - 11x, 12x, 41x, 42x, 46N, 47N, 51x, 56N, 57N, 61x, 62x, 66N, 67N, 71x, 72x, 91x, 92x
- ThinkPad i Series 1300 Machine Type
1171 - 2AU, 21U, 5BU, 5Wx, 61F, 61G, 61M, 61U, 6Lx, 71U, 7Wx, 81G, 81M, 91F, 91U, 9Lx *1
- ThinkPad 130 1171 - 51J, 52J, 61J, 62J, 71J, 72J, 81J, 82J
*1 1171-21U-2AU-71U supports Windows Me only

This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

II. Installation instructions
If you have newly installed Windows 98/Me on the system, follow the procedure indicated as Clean Installation. Otherwise, follow the procedure indicated as Update Installation.

Update Installation

  1. Start Windows 98/Me.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the System Properties window.
  6. Double-click Sound, video and game controllers in the list.
  7. Click Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
  8. Click Properties.
  9. Click the Driver tab at the top of the Crystal WDM Audio Codec Properties window.
  10. Click Update Driver.
  11. Click the Next button on the Update Device Driver Wizard window.
  12. Click Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Click Have Disk.
  15. Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO.
  16. Click OK.
  17. Click Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
  18. Click OK.
  19. If Update Driver Warning message appears, click Yes.
  20. Click Next.
  21. Click Finish.
  22. Restart the system for the driver to be effective.

Clean Installation

  1. Start Windows 98/Me.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Device Manager tab at the top of the System Properties window.
  6. Click PCI Multimedia Audio Device in the list.
  7. Click Remove.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Refresh.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Check Specify a location, and type in C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Click Finish.
  17. Restart the system for the driver to be effective.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Start Windows 98/Me.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Open the System icon.
  4. Click the Device Manager tab.
  5. Expand the Sound, video and game controller section
  6. Select Crystal WDM Audio Codec and click Properties.
  7. Click Driver.
  8. Click Driver File details.
  9. Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVEERS\cwawdm.sys. The file has the version number embedded.
