|
NOTE: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard disk drive. It will only extract under Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Me, Microsoft Windows NT, and Microsoft Windows 2000.
If you are updating to the latest audio driver, the audio patch for Windows 2000 is included in the driver.

I. Summary of changes
Version 5.12.01.4031a
- (Fix) Noise when the Windows 2000 logon panel is displayed
- (New) Add Support for ThinkPad A22e Celeron Model

II. Installation instructions
Update install Windows 2000
NOTE: Disable the driver before update as described below. It is to avoid the blue screen error during driver update.
- Start Windows 2000. If using Windows 2000, logon with administrative privileges.
- Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
- Right-click My Computer, then click Manage. Computer Management window will appear.
- Click Device Manager, then click Sound, video and game controllers.
- Double-click Crystal WDM Audio Codec and then Action then Disable. A warning window appears to confirm disabling this device.
- Click Yes.
- From the Device Manager window, click Sound, video and game controllers.
- Double-click Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
- Click Update Driver. Update Device Driver Wizard will appear.
- Click Next.
- Select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver.
- Click Next.
- Click Have Disk.
- Browse or type the directory to where the new driver is.
- Click OK.
- Click Next. You'll see the following warning popup message: Installing this device driver is not recommended because Windows cannot verify that it is compatible with your hardware. If the driver is not compatible, your hardware will not work correctly and your computer might become unstable or stop working completely. Do you want to continue installing this driver?
- Click Yes. The wizard is ready to install the driver for following hardware device: Crystal WDM Audio Codec
- Click Next.
- If you are downgrading to an old driver you'll see the following Confirm File Replace popup during the installation: The target file exists and is newer than the source. Overwrite this file?
- Click Yes. If you are upgrading to newer driver you will not see the above message.
- To complete the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard, click Finish.
- From the device manager window, click Sound, video and game controllers.
- Click Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
- Click Action then Enable.
- Shutdown and Re-boot the system.
Windows 98SE
- Copy the files to a directory on the hard disk drive and extract it.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Specify the installation program CrySetup.exe with full path you extracted in the step 2 and click OK.
- Click Uninstall. The program will popup Crystal Audio was successfully uninstalled. Click OK.
- Click Exit and return to Windows 98.
- Right-click My Computer, select Properties, click the Device Manager tab, then click Other devices. If you see PCI Multimedia Audio has yellow bang(!) select it and click the Remove button. Click OK to the confirmation popup.
- Restart the system manually.
- Add New Hardware Wizard will start. Click the Next button.
- Follow the instruction on the panels and select Search for the best driver for your device(Recommended).
- Then click Next.
- Check Specify Location check box when it appears and give the correct path to the driver. Continue following installation wizard panels. During the installation you'll be required to insert Windows 98 SE compact disc (CD) to complete the installation of the WDM driver. It will continue to install the Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
- Click Finish when the installation complete.
- Restart the system manually if you don't see the speaker icon on system tray.
Windows Me
- Copy the files to a directory on the hard disk drive and extract it.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Specify the installation program CrySetup.exe with full path you extracted in the step 2 and click OK.
- Click Uninstall. The program will popup Crystal Audio was successfully uninstalled. Click OK.
- Click Exit and return to Windows Me.
- Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Device Manager tab, then click Other devices. If you see PCI Multimedia Audio has yellow bang(!) mark, select it and click the Remove button.
- Click OK to confirmation popup and restart the system manually.
- Add New Hardware Wizard will start. Click the Next button.
- Follow the instruction on the panels and select Specify the location of the driver(Advanced). Click Next.
- Check Search for the best driver for your device(Recommended) and check Specify a Location check box and give the correct path to the driver. Continue to follow installation wizard panels. It will continue to install the Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
- Click Finish when the installation complete.
- Restart the system manually if you don't see the speaker icon on system tray.
III. Determining which version is installed
Windows 2000
- Right-click My Computer, click Manage, click Device Manager, then click Sound, Video and game controllers.
- Confirm the Crystal devices: Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
- Right-click Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
- Select Properties.
- Select the Driver tab.
- Click Driver details.
- Check File version.
- To distinguish version 4031a from 4031, do as follows:
- Click Start, point to Search, then click Files or Folders.
- Click Tools, point to Folder Options, then click View.
- Check Show hidden files and folders and click OK.
- Search for files or folders named oem*.inf.
- Look in Local Harddrives (C:;D:...) and click Search Now. Setup Information files named oem* (such as oem0) are listed as results. If a file Modified on 12/18/2000 is listed, the driver version is 4031. If a file Modified on 03/06/2001 is listed, the driver version is 4031a.
Windows 98SE/Me
- Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click Device Manager, then click Sound, Video and game controllers.
- Confirm the Crystal devices: Crystal WDM Audio Codec.
- Right-click the Crystal WDM Audio Codec and select Properties.
- Select the Driver tab, then click Driver File details. Check File version.
