I. Summary of changes
Version 5.30

II. Installation instructions
NOTE: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/uninstall wizard for the device driver in Microsoft Windows XP

Update install

  1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  2. Start Windows XP.
  3. Click Start and click Control Panel.
  4. Click Performance and Maintenance and click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click Device Manager.
  7. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
  8. Right-click Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet in Network adapters and click Properties.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click Update Driver...
  11. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
  12. Click Next.
  13. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search: only.
  14. Specify the path to sub-directory WINXP with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 1. The default location is: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\WINXP
  15. Click Next to start the driver installation.
  16. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  17. Click Close.

Clean install
NOTE: Windows XP detected the Ethernet Controller, but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see the Ethernet Controller under the Other devices heading in Device Manager. To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  2. Start Windows XP.
  3. Click Start and Control Panel.
  4. Click Performance and Maintenance and System.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click Device Manager.
  7. Right-click Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click Properties.
  8. Click the Driver tab.
  9. Click Update Driver...
  10. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
  11. Click Next.
  12. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search: only.
  13. Specify the path to sub-directory WINXP with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 1. The default location is: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\WINXP
  14. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
  15. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  16. Click Close.

III. Determining which version is installed

  1. Start Windows XP.
  2. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Performance and Maintenance.
  4. Click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click the Device Manager button.
  7. Expand the Network adapters section.
  8. Select Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet.
  9. Right-click Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet and select Properties.
  10. Click the Driver tab. The File version will be displayed.
