Symptom
USB mouse or keyboard disables PS2 devices attached to the system. The problem will occur after a client attaches any USB mouse or keyboard to the system, then shutdowns, restarts, or hibernates the system. Once the system boots to the Microsoft Windows XP logon screen, the PS2 mouse or keyboard will no longer respond.
Systems affected
All IBM NetVista 2256 systems running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2, configured with a USB mouse or keyboard.
Solution
The system BIOS is designed to disable any PS2 devices still attached to the system, if a USB mouse or keyboard has been detected during startup. Use the USB keyboard and mouse to operate the system. This behavior is part of the system BIOS design.
