Modem daughter card (MDC) removal and installation - ThinkPad X60, X60s, X61, X61s

Your system has a Modem Daughter Card (MDC) slot, in which you can install a Modem Daughter Card.

DANGER
During electrical storms, do not connect the cable to or disconnect it from the telephone outlet on the wall.

DANGER
Electric current from power, telephone, and communication cables is hazardous. To avoid shock hazard, disconnect the cables before opening the cover of this slot.

Attention:
Before you start installing a module, touch a metal table or a grounded metal object. This action reduces any static electricity from your body. The static electricity could damage the Modem Daughter Card.

To remove and replace the MDC, do as follows:

  1. Turn off the system; then disconnect the AC adapter and all cables from the system.
  2. Close the computer display, and turn the computer over.
  3. Remove the battery.
  4. Remove the keyboard.
  5. Close the computer display, and turn the computer over.
  6. Loosen the screws marked (X).
    Remove the screws.

  7. Turn the computer over and open the display 150 degrees.

  8. Push the upper edge of the palm rest downward slightly (1), while lifting up the lower edge of the palm rest and pulling the upper case towards you (2) to remove it from the lower case.

  9. Remove two screws securing the MDC.

  10. Remove the MDC by pulling the tab with your fingers. Then disconnect the modem cable from the MDC.

  11. Connect the modem cable to the new MDC, and then attach the MDC to the slot so that it is seated firmly.
  12. Secure the MDC with two screws which you have removed in step 9.
  13. Replace the upper case and push the middle top part of the upper case into place until you hear it click; then turn the machine over and tighten the screws.

  14. Reinstall the keyboard.
  15. Reinstall the battery.
  16. Turn the computer over again. Connect the AC adapter and cables to the computer; then turn it on.
