• If you update to the BIOS version 2.07-1.08 or later, you are not able to get back to the older BIOS versions.
• In order to enable the BIOS update by booting the computer from the CD/DVD/BD, it is necessary to prepare the CD/DVD/BD writing software.
• The CD/DVD/BD for the BIOS update does not support any optical drives connected through USB devices, PC Cards, CardBus cards or installed into the Ultrabay of the Docking Station. It only supports the internal optical drive in the ThinkPad computer.
• To boot the computer from an internal optical drive, your ThinkPad computer may need to change the boot device setting. Refer to the Prepare boot device section in this document.
• The contents of the created CD/DVD/BD can not be shown by Windows Explorer.
• (Limitation) The secondary hard disk with hard disk password may not be detected when the following procedures are done on Windows Vista.

1. Set the hard disk password in a secondary hard disk.
2. Hot-attach the secondary hard disk to the computer.
3. Go into standby mode and then resume normal operation to let Windows Vista recognize the hard disk.
4. Input the hard disk password when a password prompt for the secondary hard disk appears.
5. After the Windows desktop appears, double-click the Computer icon. But, the secondary hard disk may not be detected.

1. Make sure you have a ThinkPad system with a CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD combo, or DVD multidrive installed and a blank CD/DVD/BD disc.
2. Start Windows Vista, XP and logon with administrative privileges.
3. Download the ISO file.
4. For Windows Vista click Start, then click Start Search.
   For Windows XP, click Start, then click Run...
5. Specify the path where you downloaded the file, then click OK. RecordNow! or the default recording software will open.
   Example: C:\temp\7ouj15uc.iso
6. Follow the instructions on the screen.
   
   

Note:

• The resulting CD-R or CD-RW disc includes an operating system and is bootable on the supported ThinkPad models.
• Note: The System Program Service Utility bootable CD supports only the ThinkPad Ultrabay Optical Disc Drive in the ThinkPad Ultrabay. (Not in the Docking Station Ultra bay)

Please confirm that an Optical Disc Drive is in the boot device list of your BIOS setup.

1. Power off the ThinkPad, if it is turned on.
2. Power on the ThinkPad.
3. Press the F1 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility when the ThinkPad logo is seen on the screen. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
4. Choose Startup from the menu.
5. Choose Boot from the menu. Note the current boot priority order for restoration later if you need to modify your boot list.
6. In Boot Priority Order, set ATAPI CD0 to the top of the list, 1.
7. Press F10 to save the new setup and then select Yes.
8. Restart the computer.

Notes:

• If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section.
• You need an AC adapter, a charged battery pack and an internal optical drive for ThinkPad.
• If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
• Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment.

Attention:

• Do not turn off, suspend the computer or remove the BIOS UPDATE CD until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

1. Print these instructions or display on another system.
2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
3. Make sure an internal optical drive for ThinkPad is installed into your ThinkPad computer.
4. Insert the BIOS Update CD into the drive and turn on the computer.
5. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information.
6. Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
7. Select Update system program and follow the instructions on the screen.
8. After the information panel appears, remove the BIOS Update CD in the drive then press the Enter key to restart the system.
   

BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings:

1. Turn off the system.
2. Turn on the system.
3. While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
4. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
5. Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
6. Select Yes.
7. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.
8. Select Yes.
9. Restart the computer.

Notes:

• After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you had changed previously.
