ATI Display Driver for Windows XP - ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T500 and W500
Applicable countries and regions
This package installs the software (display driver) to enable the following video chips on the system board.

The following systems are supported:

Summary of Changes

Version 8.633-090710a-085325C

  • (Fix) Fixed an issue where a red and green horizontal lines shows on video playback window on VirtualDJ application.
  • (Fix) Fixed an issue that an unnecessary graphic was drawn in OpenGL mode on Thinkpad W500 systems while changing image size by using zoom function.

  • (Fix) Fixed an issue that generated a blue screen error when the display was switched to the external display attached to the Lenovo Enhanced USB Port Replicator and then "Switch User" was done.
  • (Fix) Fixed an issue that moved icons on the desktop screen after closing and opening the lid when the "Lid close: Do Nothing" option was selected in Power Options.

  • (Fix) Fixed an issue that might have image distortion and green garbage on some video formats during Blu-ray playback. Distortion appears as macroblocks garbage.
  • (Fix) Fixed an issue where some Blu-ray movie titles might have jerky video movement during playback.
  • (Fix) Fixed an issue where the LCD refresh rate was changed from 50Hz to 60Hz after resuming normal operation from standby or hibernate state.
  • (Fix) Fixed an issue where Microsoft's standard OpenGL driver was loaded, instead of AMD (ATI)'s OpenGL driver.

  • [Important] Installation support for ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 video chip.

    (Notes) This driver release is intended to support installation for ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 video chip. If your video chip is not ATI Mobility FireGL V5700, it may not be necessary to update your driver.

  • (Fix) Copy protection error message 'Your display environment does not support protected content playback' pops-up when playing Blu-ray movies. This happens after ejecting the disk, insert back then play again.

Notes
  • If the BIOS is not updated to the version 1.18 (6FET48WW) or later, you have to update the display driver first before BIOS update. Or you will be asked for an appropriate driver for a newly found hardware device and the display may be VGA (640x480) mode. In VGA mode, your icon arragement on the desktop will be messed up.
  • This software requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. This version installs it if it is not installed into your system.
Installation instructions

Notes:

  • If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section.
  • Before update, uninstallation of current driver is recommeded. Refer to the Uninstallation Instructions section.
Manual Install

This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

Downloading files

  1. Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear.
  2. In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance.
  3. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.
  4. After being downloaded, the file will need to be extracted.

Extracting files

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the directory where the file was downloaded.
  2. Locate the file that was just downloaded and click it using the right mouse button then select Extract All.
  3. The file will begin to extract in the directory where the downloaded file is located.

Installing files

  1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and locate the directory where the files were extracted.
  3. Double-click SETUP file.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  5. At the Select Components screen, click Express.
  6. At the Setup Complete screen, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
  7. Click Finish to reboot the system and complete the installation.
Unattended install
This procedure is intended for system administrator use only.
  1. Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files.
  2. At the command line, execute SETUP.EXE with the /K -SMS options. Example: [Path where the files were extracted]\SETUP /K -SMS

Uninstallation instructions
Manual Uninstall
  1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. Click or Double-click on Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Select ATI - Software Uninstall Utility and click on Change/Remove button.
  5. Click OK button to continue to uninstall.
  6. Click Yes button to restart Windows.
Unattended uninstall

This is for system administrators' use only.

  • Make sure path to driver package using now.
  • At the command line, execute SETUP.EXE with the -uui option.
    Example: [Path where the files were extracted]\SETUP -uui
Determining which version is installed
  1. Right-click anywhere on an open area of the Windows desktop, and select ATI Catalyst(R) Control Center.
  2. If the ATI Catalyst Control Center is opened for the first time, a window will open asking to choose between Basic or Advanced. Select Advanced and click Next. Catalyst Control Center Notification window will open.
  3. Click Yes. Catalyst Control Center Advanced window will open.
  4. In the Graphics Settings pane, select Information Center then select Graphics Software. In the Graphics Software pane, the Driver Packaging Version is displayed.
