Downloading the package
  1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page.
  2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file.
Installing the package

Windows Vista

  1. Click Start, click Start Search.
  2. Type hddquicktest_setup_5.1.533200.exe in the search field, then click Search Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
  3. Double-click the hddquicktest_setup_5.1.533200.exe icon. You may see a dialog stating "A program needs your permission to continue". If you see this dialog, click Continue.
  4. PC-Doctor for Windows will be installed on your system.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start, select Search, then click All files and folders.
  2. Type hddquicktest_setup_5.1.533200.exe in the search field, then click Search. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
  3. Double-click the hddquicktest_setup_5.1.533200.exe icon.
  4. PC-Doctor for Windows will be installed on your system.

How to Run Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test

Summary

Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test is a diagnostic tool that tests the hard drives in Lenovo ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, and Lenovo 3000 computers running Windows XP or Vista released after January 2004. If you are experiencing issues with your Lenovo product, you may run this test to determine if your issues are hard drive related.

Running Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test

To run Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test from Windows, follow these steps:

1. Download the test to your computer.

2. Run the application install and choose the defaults. Once installed, the application will be placed under a "Lenovo Services" choice on your Start Menu.

3. If the application detects that the Lenovo System Toolbox is already installed, it will ask whether you want to continue the installation. This is because the new hard drive test is installed by default as part of the Lenovo System Toolbox.

4. Choose a drive if you have more than one drive.

5. Start the Test

Testing in process:

1. The test may take 4 to 6 minutes depending on the size and speed of the drive.

2. When the diagnostics are complete, a message will be displayed indicating that test "Passed", "Failed", or "further testing is required to verify the drive's proper operation". If further testing is required, start running the extended test. The test may take more than an hour depending on the size and speed of the drive.

3. When the diagnostics are complete the extended test, a message will be displayed indicating that the test Passed" or Failed".

4. If the test failed, contact Lenovo Support Center

Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test Tool (Bootable version)
Downloading the package
  1. Click the mediacreator_5182.28.exe file link to download the file from the Web page.
  2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Write down the location you have saved the file to.
Create bootable version of Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test for USB Key
  1. Have a USB Flash Drive to use for this process. Note: the drive will be formatted so make sure you backup any data from the key first.
  2. Launch the media creator file by double clicking on the mediacreator_5182.28.exe executable file from the drive and directory that you selected in the previous step.
  3. Insert the USB Flash Drive
  4. The first screen has a choice to "Select USB or CD/DVD" (USB is default). The "I agree to the terms and conditions" box is not selected and the "next" button is grayed out. Choose the Media Type to use, click the "Terms and Conditions", and select "next" to start creating the media.
  5. The next window shows available media, the "Next" button is grayed out. Single click on your USB memory key. The window has 2 options: 1) Create bootable diagnostics (preselected) or 2) Delete bootable diagnostics. Pick "Create bootable diagnostics" and select "Next" to proceed. Click "Next" and you will get a pop-up window "Warning this utility will erase all data on : {USB key info}".
  6. Click "yes" to proceed. Application sets up and stops at 50% (no pop up) and is waiting for the user to hit "Next".
  7. Clicking "Next" brings up the Windows format device Window (default is FAT 16 and quick is selected).
  8. Click "Start" to format key.
  9. Click "OK" to start format.
  10. Click "OK" when Finished.
  11. Click "X" in top right of window to close the Format Window.
  12. Click "Finished" on the application and the key is finished.
  13. Note: In step 5, the "Delete Bootable diagnostics option" will remove the utility from the Key. In this case the key will also be formatted so make sure you backup any data from the key you wish to keep.
Create bootable version of Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test for CD/DVD
  1. Have a blank or re-writable disc (CD/DVD) available.
  2. Launch the media creator file by double clicking on the mediacreator_5182.28.exe executable file.
  3. Choose "CD or DVD" as the Media Type.
  4. Upon reading and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, click Next.
  5. The Drive tray will eject. Insert blank media, and click "Next"
  6. Follow the step by step instructions to create the bootable media.
Running the bootable Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test
  1. Insert the bootable media / USB Key in CD/DVD tray or USB port, whichever is applicable.
  2. Shutdown your system.
  3. Power on your system.
  4. Boot your system from the USB Key or CD-ROM/DVD drive. To do this, press the F12 key when the system boots up and pick the device you wish to boot from in the list. (CD Device is usually ATAPI CD0).
  5. Choose a language for the Test from the first screen by using the arrow key and hit ENTER.
  6. Choose the type of test to run (Quick Test or Extended Test):
    1. Quick Test (test may take 4 to 6 minutes depending on the size and the speed of the drive)
    2. In some cases, the Quick Test may require the Long Test to be run.
    3. Long Test (may take more than an hour depending on the size and the speed of the dive)
  7. Remove the media once you are finished and reboot the machine.
