Overview

The High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Adapter (Low Profile Enabled) option enables high-speed, secure (128-bit encrypted), wireless LAN access. In addition, this product facilitates the easy deployment of new network infrastructures without the expense of implementing a wired LAN.

Note: This option includes a CD with software drivers and a manual.

This 802.11b adapter supports a maximum physical layer throughput of 11 Mbps, with automatic fallback to 5.5 Mbps, 2 Mbps, and 1 Mbps. Please note that effective throughput will be less than these values and will also vary, depending on the usage environment.

Hardware requirements

The adapter can be installed in a PCI 2.2 compatible Intel Pentium-architecture processor, compatible PC.

The High Rate Wireless LAN PCI adapter (low profile enabled) will be certified by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA) and will obtain the Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) logo. The Wi-Fi certification/logo ensures industry standard inter-operability among IEEE 802.11b products.

The adapter is supported on the following NetVista PC series.

  • A20, A21, A25, A21i, M40, M41, X40, X41.

Note: This wireless adapter must be properly connected to an IEEE 802.11b compliant, wireless infrastructure through a Wired-Fidelity (Wi-Fi) certified access point. In addition, this access point must be properly connected to a wired network, including but not limited to an ethernet/token ring local area network (LAN) or broadband service provider.

Supported operating systems

  • Microsoft WHQL certified drivers for Microsoft Windows 2000.
  • Additional driver support for Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows Me.
