Windows NT shutdown service - ThinkPad A3*, R3*, R40, T30, T40/p, T41, T42, T43, X30, X31, X32, X40 |
This package provides the function to power off ThinkPad automatically after shutdown of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.
This feature is available with the following ThinkPad computers:
- ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p - ThinkPad R30, R31, R32, R40 - ThinkPad T30, T40, T41, T42, T43 - ThinkPad X30, X31, X32, X40
Note: For the user who uses other ThinkPad models that support Windows NT 4.0, use the ThinkPad Shutdown Service for Windows NT 4.0 package. |

- (Fix) The Shutdown Service application could not be removed from Add/Remove Programs panel.
Notes:
- The ThinkPad Software Installer provides install and uninstall wizards for this package.
- Install or uninstall the Shutdown Service on your system after your logon with Administrator's right.
To install or uninstall this package manually, follow the instruction below.
- Extract this package onto your local hard drive.
- Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with Administrator rights.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Specify the installation program INSTALL.EXE with full path you extracted to in step 1 and click OK.
- Follow the on screen instructions as you select the appropriate installation or uninstall options.
- Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Applications icon.
- Select Shutdown Service for Windows NT, and click the Add/Remove button.
This is for system administrators' use only.
- Start Windows NT4, logon with administrative privileges.
- Extract the drivers to the hard drive.
- Click Start and then click Run.
- Type the following command line, C:\DRIVERS\SHUTDSVS\INSTALL.EXE -S
You can identify what version of the driver has already been installed by the Date/Time of the following files. To check the date/time of these files:
- Start Windows NT.
- Click Start select Find then click Files or Folders.
- Click the Name & Location tab.
- In the Named: field, type the file name listed in the table.
- In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:).
- Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the driver is not installed on your system.
- In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 for EXE file or in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS for SYS file.
- Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file.

Note: C:\winnt is the typical sample for Windows installed drive and root directory. If you install Windows in another drive/ directory, specify your Windows installed drive and root directory.
